When Sport and Cryptocurrency Collide

Literally. As the big news of the day for all those interested in the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency is that Litecoin has become the “Official Cryptocurrency of the Miami Dolphins“.

source

As a Brit, you do have to make an effort to watch a game of American Football on the TV. The sport is nowhere near as popular in the UK as the likes of Football, Tennis, Cricket, etc, but 'we' are aware there is another 'football' out there, and that the ball is the wrong shape.

My team as a child was the San Francisco 49's, but my brother was all for the Miami Dolphins and it is this team that today has potentially give Litecoin, and cryptocurrency in general, a huge stage to stand on.

Launching for the 2019 NFL season, the collaboration with the Miami Dolphins gives Litecoin the ability to tap into one of the NFL’s largest and most passionate fan bases through in-game branding and advertising opportunities at Hard Rock Stadium, as well as inclusion across the team’s various online properties and digital content.

It is clear to me that such a popular sport, particularly in the US, has the ability to bring many more eyes onto cryptocurrency. And it's not only Litecoin getting in on the act:

Through the partnership, the Miami Dolphins, Litecoin and Aliant Payments intend to give home game attendees the ability to pay with Litecoin and Bitcoin when purchasing tickets for the team’s 50/50 raffle, where half of the proceeds benefit the Miami Dolphins Foundation and its charitable causes.

“We’re thrilled to see Litecoin become the official cryptocurrency of the Miami Dolphins,” said Charlie Lee, creator of Litecoin and managing director of the Litecoin Foundation. “This collaboration propels Litecoin in front of an audience of millions of people around the world at a time where adoption of cryptocurrencies continues to gain momentum and the ecosystem is able to support real world use cases in ways previously not possible. We see this as a powerful way to raise awareness and educate people about Litecoin and cryptocurrencies on a tremendous scale.”

Absolutely huge news, although today it has done little to stop the market bleeding.

I can foresee other coins and industry leading technology and businesses adopting this approach as millions of people attend and sit in front of the television to absorb sport on a daily basis.

Finally, the prospect of a decent half-time (end of quarter / play, or whatever it is) advert.

Go Dolphins!

ahhhh thats why I just saw Cheetah rushing to Steem Engine with a manic smile and fist full of Sports Tokens ;-)

Man City had a sponsorship deal with an exchange and I read this article yesterday. The exchanges at least are aiming to become more mainstream....or more likely, hoping to attract a more gambling crowd and selling themselves as a Crypto Betfai.

I gave them a few hundred just for being the first on my post :)

It's funny, if i'd written a paragraph and shared the link cheetah would have stayed away, but when you give to much text from the link and source it, you get a visit. Oh well, might as well start posting dlike one-liners :)

Hopefully City don't have them as a Sleeve sponsor like Wolves did - who's looking there?!

Great news @abh12345.sports and the fact that the Litecoin has become another part of our life, can only please us!

It is big news, and I suspect that on a 'green day' for the markets, this could have well fueled the fire further. Today though, nothing is stopping a decline in prices everywhere.

Any news is good news and this is great in my opinion. Not that my opinion means that much lol. The markets are really bleeding at the moment and can't believe Steem is hovering under the 30 cent mark again.

Tens of millions more eyes on one of the lead coins in Crypto can only be good. Just a shame it's been announced on one of the worst days in months :)

Starting to recover ever so slightly, perhaps because of this? It is one of my favourite coins!

Because of my post, mayhaps!? :D

A shocking week, but more news like this could well turn this sinking ship around, please!

One of the issues of being around in the early stages of a new era is teething issues. The markets are crazy at the moment but there is no doubt that blockchain will have a major impact on the world, including sport, in the future. I believe Wolves were sponsored by a crypto exchange last season? A sign of things to come!

Agreed that blockchain tech will reshape the future. Meanwhile we all get to play a crazy game with the associated coins :)

As for the Wolves sponsorship, I didn't know that and after a quick look, you are indeed correct.

The sleeve? hmm, I can forgive myself for missing this one! :)

Ahh, I wasn't just imagining it then! It would be pretty cool if Sportstalksocial could become a sponsor for some of these fan tv groups. Redmen TV, Arsenal TV, FullTimeDevils etc.

I like your thinking!

My feeling is that amount, and dare I say quality of content would need to rise before I would feel comfortable in broadcasting this (or any of the other ) tribe out to the masses. Or I could be looking at the wrong way around and maybe an influx of new viewers and creators would make this happen.

It's a nice thought, I wonder if any of the tribe leaders are thinking along these lines @patrickulrich

Completely agree in terms of content quality.

One of the issues we had/have with Scorum is that there simply weren't enough people creating content that was of a decent level. Some of it was due to people trying to trick the system with plagiarism, others created posts that were just rehashed news articles that would never be found, others were posting in very broken English on the EN domain, and others were clearly just there to earn as much SCR as they could.

Something that has impressed me about Sportstalksocial so far, however, is that there is already a much larger pool of content creators and I can only see this growing.

Ahh, Scorum, I did take a look around last year and have an account not doing much. Is that one a goner then?

There are plenty of people lurking on Steem at present, and with a push in price many will return. I'm not sure these people are the ideal people we want, but I'm sure at least some of them will be able to kick out some decent content.

I wouldn't say it's a goner just yet but things aren't looking good. The thing that made Scorum have so much potential was the 0% commission betting exchange. Sadly, the developers didn't deliver on promises so there was only one sport added to it and there is no obvious scheduled update for this. Communication is rare and tends to be along the lined of "...but the bear market".

Without a fully functioning betting exchange, it's just a smalltime rip-off of Steemit as far as I'm concerned. There is absolutely no requirement to purchase SCR because you don't need it for anything and can easily earn the same amount by posting a few decent blog posts.

It feels different here though. Like you say, lots of lurkers who would likely return and I feel that there is a lot of potential here for growth.

Right-o, I'll not be too worried about not making it back over there for a while then.

I'm confident of an upswing in the markets and for Steem, the fundamentals seem much stronger here than in the past. I'm stocking up whilst we wait.

It's a great match up - Hopefully Miami will get to the Superbowl final where how many people tune in each year?!

I swear I saw Litecoin on UFCs octagon canvas a few events ago. It was just a matter of time before we see this type of partnerships. All good, but the markets are still bleeding :/

Let us give the Dolphins a few games before we judge on it:)

It's just a matter of time before cryptos creep into our every-day lives. Most people reading this already have an interest, but give it 5 - 10 years and everyone will be familiar with a cryto currency of some sort. Especially SPORTS, token with real value in the long run!

I was most stunned when I heard that juventus was launching their crypto to give their supporters a voice:

Have not read a lot later on this - have to research a bit. Great topic @abh12345.sports

Yes it is excellent news and should help introduce crypto to many new faces. Surely it is just a waiting game before mass adoption? :)

This is absolutely an amazing news. Litecoin would quickly earn it high fit now that it has been synchronized into the sporting arena.

I think investing into litecoin at this time would be the best for me to join in this trend. Hope to see Litecoin grow.
