Sporting Clube de Portugal 2023 Gymnastics Christmas Sarau

Good afternoon, friends!

How was your weekend? I hope it was fantastic.

I want to share my weekend in December last year. We were preparing for Christmas, and I was invited to attend the annual Christmas Sarau performance by SCP (Sporting Clube de Portugal) Gymnastics. Although it's not the club of my heart, it is the club where my goddaughter currently practices gymnastics. As she is a very active girl, I believe she still has a lot of growing to do in this sport.

When I was a little boy of her age, sport and I didn't go together. Physical activity was never my strong suit, and I even failed physical education in high school because I couldn't do the handstand, even with support... Ahahah It would have been very difficult for a boy who wasn't tall and weighed a lot more than he should... At that time, other activities caught my interest. I would spend afternoons playing with Legos, or reading adventure stories.

After this short introduction, I want to show you how proud I am of my goddaughter. At just over 8 years old, she does things that even a normal teenager wouldn't be able to do with her dexterity.

This soiree took place on December 16 at the João Rocha Pavilion in Lisbon and was attended by family members and friends of the athletes who made the presentation.

For the groups, there were performances for all tastes and from athletes of all age groups.

From beginners to super veterans. Trampolines, floor exercises, carpet, contemporary dance, hip hop, hoop gymnastics, ball... It was a spectacle that enlivened a chilly December afternoon.

Each person who attended and had bought a ticket for this event was asked to bring a gift. The gift consisted of toiletries to be donated to needy families in the Alvalade Parish Council. The athletes who took part brought gifts to be distributed to the children of the needy families, and the symbolic number of 500 gifts accumulated was reached.

All in all, an event that brought families together for a noble sporting activity on a winter's afternoon, but with a marked social component.
