My Actifit Report Card: March 4 2025

Today was another busy day at work. I had to visit the factory again today since we are developing new products. I worked at a furniture company from the US as a part of the quality assurance team. We mostly produce our goods in Indonesia and today we are developing new finish colors.

Making a new finish color is like painting because we need to show some depth, textures, and decorative points without removing the solid wood characters. We mostly worked with Mahogany wood, Rubber wood, Albasia wood, and Teak wood since they are abundant in Indonesia.

For this project we are trying to pull out a dark finish with some tawny and chestnut undertone. We are already done developing the color on a panel and now we were trying to put it on a nightstand.

Since this is a pretty small factory, the sample workshop area is very simple and we did our work manually, using a pad, brush, sand paper, steel wool and spray gun. Once the product is approved, then we begin the mass production in the main building.

I always like to observe color development because you can always come up with something new. Different color combinations will create a different finish that has its own aesthetic values. Sometimes, when we have rustic themed projects, we use tools like chains, chisels, nails, and other sharp objects to create dent, scratch, and even chipping the paints to create an antique look.

Since this product has a contemporary look, the finish is pretty clean and we only play with the depth and layering technique to create an unique collection. All in all, today was a productive day and I hope that our main office will like the final result. Wish me luck guys!
