Who Will Win the 2022 World Cup?

G'day Hive! We're about to enter another World Cup year but it's been tainted by the well documented controversies surrounding host nation Qatar. Even I find it hard to get motivated for it with the corruption and humans rights abuses.

Overlooking it all, there's football to look forward to and it'll be the last World Cup in its current format of 32 teams. It'll also be the first time the tournament is not held in May, June or July; but rather in November and December.

So who will win the 2022 World Cup? Let's take a look.

As usual, Europe has a strong representation in the World Cup with 13 teams from UEFA qualifying for this World Cup.

France are current football world champions and are among the most valuable national football teams with a squad worth in excess of €1bn. With a team boasting superstars such as Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann to name a few, they're expected to be among the best players in the tournament. It's easy to see why many see two-time winners France as the most likely to win the 2022 World Cup.

We shouldn't discount England who last won the World Cup in 1966. They are the most valuable national football team in the world at the moment, worth over over €1.2bn and are led by Harry Kane, Jason Sancho and Raheem Sterling. Italy are reigning EURO champs and Spain also had a strong campaign, and they both rank high among many World Cup 2022 winner predictions.

Germany have been underwhelming in recent years however a change of coach could be what they need. The 'Golden Generation' of Belgium have been extremely underwhelming in major tournaments but are ranked number one in the world so they should not be discounted. The Netherlands looked dangerous at EURO before a loss in the round of sixteen.

Can Portugal win World Cup 2022? With Cristiano Ronaldo anything is possible. Along with World Cup 2018 finalists Croatia, Portugal are World Cup underdogs but are genuine dark horses to win 2022 World Cup.

Argentina have a squad worth around €650.00m and with Lionel Messi in their side, they'll be one of the best teams at the tournament.

Alongside Brazil, they are the strongest teams representing South America and are a big chance to bring the World Cup back to the continent for the first time since 2002.

Dark horses for the World Cup out of Africa are Senegal and Nigeria. Sadio Mane, Edouard Mendy and Koulibaly lead a Senegalese side looking to be Africa's first ever World Cup winners. Ndidi, Osimhen and Iheanacho also give Nigeria's 2022 World Cup hopes a huge boost.

How about the USMNT? The farthest the US has made it in the World Cup is the semi-finals af the 1930 World Cup - the first ever World Cup - held in Uruguay.

The USNMT with players like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams and Sergino Dest and a wealth of upcoming talent, makes America another genuine darkhorse for the 2022 World Cup.

So...who are you backing to win the tournament?

France has the higher chance of winning the world cup. They have a young and talented team, too many good players on the team.

I'm rooting for france ❣️

I believe it’ll take a very special team to win it twice in a row

Argentina have some momentum after the Copa America, so maybe it could be them.

They're a shot especially with Messi. And I'm sure they'll be extra motivated in the first World Cup since the death of Maradona

Can Portugal win World Cup 2022?

The question is, can they qualify?

I have a feeling it might actually be Spain. But it depends on whether Barcelona can make Ferran a great finisher in the center attacking position. Their team hasn't lacked in chances creation but in finishing. If they fix their finishing the sky is the limit.

It is a toss-up between Spain and Germany for me.

Good point regarding Portugal. My grandfathers German and I've been going for them since 1996. They're also a chance but the loss to Korea in 2018 was deflating

I'd say Spain and Argentina both look strong coming into the tournament.

The current Belgian team reminds me a bit of the English side of the early 2000's. Lots of individual talent but not the right tactics/XI to be successful in tournament football.

As for England, I'd still be concerned about their lack of world class centre-backs and central midfielders. Unfortunately, we might have blown our chances for success in a major tournament at the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020.

Harry Maguire is such a weak link its unbelievable. Just so many high profile mistakes. Just need someone solid, imagine having someone like Rio or Sol Campbell at back with today's team. I would've said John Terry but he's not the greatest role model

Argentina finally have a team to win the world cup. Los Celso could find Messi in the dark and Martinez is a good keeper. Plus they have Romero as the centre half. The copa America win has gave them confience. England were too defensive at the euros. Played terrible football. The talent that they have. Can't see them winning it. France and Brazil will be there and there abouts. Portugal are not great. Either are Belgium since the defence is getting old and Hazard is off the boil. It will be interesting

Argentina I agree are a real shot and I think they'll want to do it in the memory of the late Maradona
