The Greatest Sports Commercials of All-Time

Sports and advertisements go hand in hand. It gives brands exposure and builds brand loyalty, while helping to sponsor sporting teams and individuals. Lets take a look at the best sports commercials of all-time.

15. Be Like Mike - Gatorate (1992)

The Quaker Oats Company owned the Gatorate brand at the time until PepsiCo brought out the parent company in 2001. Right after Michael Jordan and the Bulls won the 1992 NBA Finals, Gatorate launched one of the greatest taglines in sports advertisement history with the "Be Like Mike" campaign. The commercial shows Jordan's greatest highlights and young kids trying to imitate his dunks.

14. Winner Stays On - Nike (2014)

In the lead up to the 2014 World Cup, Nike delivered one of its most iconic football/soccer commercials. The commercial was based again on the effective marketing idea of young kids imitating their idols. The kids transform into their superstars including Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Wayne Rooney, Eden Hazard, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Andres Iniesta. The commercial also features non-football stars such as Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, Kobe Bryant, Incredible Hulk and Irina Shayk.

13. The Showdown - McDonalds (1993)

Not long after Michael Jordan's famous "Be Like Mike" commercial with Gatorate, Michael Jordan was at it again, this time with fast food giants McDonalds. In a showdown between Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, the pair agree to play a game of H.O.R.S.E with the first to miss watching the other eat Jordan's Big Mac. The iconic commercial was remade again in 2010. None of them can miss a single shot, so take Jordan's advice and go and get a Big Mac.

12. Joga Bonito - Nike (2006)

In the lead up to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the Joga Bonito (Portuguese for Play Beautifully) campaign launched by Nike was aimed at helping to inspire a generation of youngsters to the beautiful side of football as the game was being criticised over player theatrics and poor sportsmanship. The commercials were presented by Eric Cantona and featured superstars like Ronaldino, Ronaldo, Kaka, Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney.

You can check out the commercials I wrote about across Part 1 and Part 2.

11. Just For Men (2008)

It's great to see Emmitt Smith again. The Cowboys' legend spent 15-years in the NFL and won three Super Bowls. The commercial has a couple more all-time great players turned broadcasters Clyde Frazier and Keith Hernandez searching for Smith in a retirement village for running backs. The humour adds to the commercial which did wonders in targeting an older audience.

...I'll be back with another five of the greatest commercials tomorrow.

It's hard not to fall in love with "Winners Take All". Come on, that concept is sleek and crazy. Funny too... Double Luis, Pirlo struck in the face, Iniesto 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂...

The Nike "Winner stays on" was very enjoyable with the array of stars paraded and how they were infused with those kids.

Who wouldn't love Joga Bonito?😁

Winners Stays On would always be my favourite. I enjoyed it when it came out and I love the whole idea behind it. You brought back memories even the one with Thierry Henry, Drogba, Messi and others.

I love these sports commercials. When I first saw the "Winner Stays On" commercial I remember being so hyped about it, and I dont remeber why. I guess its the music with all those stars :D

I am waiting for this POV commercial where you are the player for Arsenal and score a free kick and are getting scouted by Wenger. Let's see if this is inculded.

Cant wait for the next parts! :)

Larry Bird and Magic didn't really like one another and this wasn't really evident at the time but their feud on the court left the court in a war of words, frequently. I only recently found out about this because we have much better access to information now

. Funny how money can bring people together. Those commercials were great.

Oh wow! I suppose that makes it even more fascinating that they could come together back then despite not really seeing eye to eye. Did you find out what got them to that stage?

That Gatorade commercial featuring MJ catapulted Gatorade's popularity.
