The Biggest and Most Hatred Filled Rivalries in Football
G'day tribe, I've got an epic series ahead, the biggest and most hate filled football derbies. The biggest derbies in football are as a result of geographical, political and social differences, or simply out of envy. Let's take a look at the biggest rivalries in football.
15. Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund
The Der Klassiker is one of the top football derbies in the world between the two most successful German clubs. The continued domination of Bayern further fuels the rivalry which peaked at the 2013 Champions League Final.

14. Liverpool vs. Everton
Like all the biggest derbies in football the Merseyside Derby attracts violence especially because of the proximity of Liverpool and Everton. Both clubs are based in Liverpool and their home grounds are only 970 metres apart!

13. Sporting Lisbon vs. Porto
The O Clássico is one of the top derbies in football between two of Portugal's largest cities. The different classes of supporters has led to one of the biggest rivalries in football. Benfica struggled financially from their beginnings and represents the working class. Sporting represents a traditionally wealthier fanbase.
As a Sporting fan it pains me to say that the best 2 way rivalry in world soccer is Benfica and Porto. Almost every year the title comes down to a game like this. Stunning winner by the Mexican. https://t.co/zDMByukKNs

12. Arsenal vs. Tottenham
Arsenal's move into Tottenham's territory in 1919 set the platform for one of the biggest rivalries in football. The stadiums of the North London rivals are only 4 miles (6.4 km) apart and both sets of supporters are obsessed with finishing above each other in the league.

11. Roma vs. Lazio
Italy's capital clubs Roma and Lazio both share Stadio Olimpico and the divide between the fanbases has created one of the biggest derbies in the world. In 1927 Italy's fascist leadership merged Rome's clubs to restore the city to its former glory, forming Roma. Lazio resisted the merger and are therefore seen as "outsiders".

...OK tribe I'll be back tomorrow with part two!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Wolfgang Sport started in 2017 as a way to connect my passion for American and British sports. Today it's evolved into a blockchain sports blog pushing the boundaries into the crypto world and embracing Web3 technologies.
All on this list I very much understand their source and sense of rivalry but the one between Manchester United and Liverpool is one I am sincerely yet to understand.
Oh yes, rivalries are the things that are making the sports so enjoyable. It brings so many emotions into the game, it is unbelievable. In one moment you see a 40 year old dentist, in the next moment it is a shirtless painted man that is screaming at antoher man with a whistle. Only sports can do that :D
So true, the passion in sports is amazing and the emotion it can bring out of us!
Football rivalries has always been a spice to the beauty of the game. It's one of those things that brings out the best in the fans. The fun of seeing friends and best turn upon each other in friendly banter is always a thing of beauty, especially when you have the bagging rights.
Cool list! Looking forward to the other parts of it. While the most famous football derby in my Czech homeland is the one between Sparta Prague and Slavia Prague, the most intense and violent Czech derby is actually the one between my hometown club SFC Opava and our regional rivals Banik Ostrava. Especially when both clubs have their Polish allies on their sides (Opava + Wroclaw and Ostrava + Katowice). The biggest derby I have been to so far, however, is the one between Wisla Krakow and Cracovia Krakow. I´m sure this one will be on your list ;)
Thank you for sharing! The Polish derby didn't make my list but upon reflection it could have snuck in! It missed out just based on stature of the club and league but in no uncertain terms does that make the rivalry less fierce. The ultras are absolutely mad!
With both clubs founded in 1906, it´s one of the oldest (and fiercest) football derbies in Europe. The hatred between Wisla and Cracovia is extreme and unfortunately, there have even been many fatalities resulting from the fights between the fans over the decades. There is a reason why this derby is called "The Holy War" ;) I have been an avid football fan for more than 25 years, been to many games and stadiums in many countries and I can tell you this Polish derby is absolutely crazy...
Nice post !! Looking forward to the next rivalries you'll post, hope to see a couple ones(my favorites) there Regards !!
I can add to this list the Derby Sevillano, Sevilla vs Real Betis; it is impressive how passionate is the rivalry between these two clubs, every time they have to play for La Liga regardless of their position in the table, they give everything they have because it is unforgivable to lose and that is why they play with a lot of intensity.
The last Derby for the Copa del Rey playoffs was even dangerous because of an aggression that a Sevilla player received for an object that was thrown on the field and I think that by the way this elimination ended it is clear that this rivalry in the coming years will be stronger.
Thanks for that! I'll have to look into that one a bit more as its not the typical rivalry you hear about!
It has been 10 years since Dortmund were champions, I hope that they can win it again.
I think the Bundesliga needs anybody to win to keep it a relevant competitive league. I dont even care if RB Leipzig win it!
I agree, I am getting bored with Bayern always winning.
We didn't make it to the top 10 even. All thanks to @blanchy's Spurs being a small club.
Hahaha. North London rivals is fierce! It was tough though because of the level of others across the globe. Even top 25 I think makes a derby I'd crap myself if I went too
Was at Dortmund and Schalke. Bearly got out alive. They have a history.
Couple of South American ones that you would have to wear Flak jackets to. 😀
