The 10 Cities That Should Have an NFL Expansion Team (Part 3)
An NFL expansion team brings in new jobs, more fans and an influx of tourists to a city. I've already explored six cities on the way here. It may be surprising to many that international teams have been among the teams including Toronto, Frankfurt, Mexico City and London. Imagine an NFL team in Canada, Germany, Mexico or England!
As an Aussie I would love for there to be a team down under but that's a pipe dream. It would be amazing if the International Series extended to here and if there were a game to be played. It's remarkable how global the game has become.
Anyway can you guess where the final three most favourite cities to gain an NFL expansion team are? Let's take a look as we wrap up the series.
3. San Diego, California
Awarding an NFL expansion team to San Diego seems like the right thing to do. The Chargers were based in the city from 1961 to 2016 before relocating to Los Angeles. San Diego Stadium aka. Qualcomm Stadium hosted three Super Bowls but it's since been demolished and replaced with the 35,000-seat Snapdragon Stadium.
San Diego should still have an NFL franchise. 😡 pic.twitter.com/AOy46nFwJD

2. Portland, Oregon
The NFL should expand to Portland if it wants to tap into the 22nd largest TV market in America. That would place it ahead of 11 current NFL teams. An NFL expansion team was a real possibility in the 1960's and could've beaten out Seattle if construction of the Delta Dome went ahead.
It’s crazy to think Portland could have had both a MLB & NFL franchise but voted no on the Delta Dome.

1. Oakland, California
Oakland deserves an NFL expansion team because the league already ditched the city twice. The Raiders played at Oakland Coliseum, one of the worst NFL stadiums. They still managed to average 84% capacity despite only four winning seasons in Oakland after their return from Los Angeles in 1995.
The NFL should look toward an Oakland NFL team if they want a truly passionate fan base. In the Raiders first season in Las Vegas, almost 15% of season ticket holders were from northern California despite the eight-hour road trip to Vegas.
Could the NFL come back to Oakland?

Wolfgang Sport started in 2017 as a way to connect my passion for American and British sports. Today it's evolved into a blockchain sports blog pushing the boundaries into the crypto world and embracing Web3 technologies.
Are you suggesting, perhaps, a new league be formed called the California Football League? 😄
I don't think the NFL needs more teams in that area, certainly not in Oakland again, since they've tried there twice and moved, as you said. San Diego doesn't need to be an expansion team, send the Chargers back there (LA certainly doesn't need 2 teams).
Portland may be a good call though, probably far enough north of San Francisco not to impinge on their fan base, yet close enough to other teams to build up some good rivalries.

Ye that's a fair call considering you have the two LA teams there. Agree LA doesn't need two teams. Seattle vs Portland would set the Northwest alight
