Lazars in our house

Lazars visited us today.

The Lazars are young girls dressed in beautiful Bulgarian national costumes. Their heads were adorned with wreaths of flowers and they carried baskets adorned with greenery to collect gifts.

On St. Lazarus' Day, the lazars go around the houses in the village and sing songs wishing health, fertility, happiness and prosperity to each member of the family. The owners of the house donate eggs, fruits, treats, money and small gifts.

It was so nice that they visited our house.
