Las victorias para el equipo de Gaiteros del Zulia están llegando, aunque han sido de manera sufrida. Este equipo pasa por ese momento de volver a recuperar la confianza de su fanaticada, luego de una temporada gris el año pasado. Han sido juegos duros, primero se perdió con Brillantes y luego con Trotamundos, el actual campeón de la Superliga Profesional de Baloncesto (SPB). Lo importante es que también se han logrado los triunfos, uno contra el mismo Brillantes, otro con Héroes de Falcón y el último, hasta ahora, contra Broncos de Caracas, todos con marcador muy corto. Cualquiera pudo ganar esos partidos.

Lo que sí es cierto es que Gaiteros es uno de los equipos más seguidos en esta liga por años y esta temporada no será la excepción. Luego de la adquisición de Rubén Nembhard para dirigir al equipo «Comecandela» y la incorporación de jugadores importados como Ty Lawson y Matthew Butler y Sebirumbi, el equipo ha tomado confianza y se ha vuelto más sólido a nivel ofensivo.

Si hay algo que puedo criticar de este equipo zuliano es la defensa, se ha visto muy vulnerable y quizás por ello no se han ganado cómodo los partidos, pero también es importante mencionar que Gaiteros hace un gran esfuerzo en jugar de local en un gimnasio sin aire acondicionado, como lo es el Pedro Elías Belisario Aponte (PEBA), lo que hace que el desgaste salga a relucir muy rápido.

Una victoria para iniciar la semana era sumamente importante, Gaiteros la acaba de conseguir contra Broncos de manera dramática 67 a 66, en los últimos segundos le había quedado la posesión a los de la capital, sin embargo, cuando intentaron buscar el triple, fue fallido y así se marcharon del PEBA con récord negativo en su visita a Maracaibo, primero porque perdió ante Brillantes en el mismo lugar y ahora ante Gaiteros.

El primer cuarto fue determinante para los de casa, lo dominaron 15-9 y dejaba ver un equipo más compacto. Allí fue donde se observó las primeras apariciones en el partido de Butler, quien terminó siendo el dueño, amo y señor de la ofensiva de Gaiteros en esta noche por haber logrado 21 puntos, 5 rebotes y 4 asistencias. Otro de los jugadores que se vio sueldo en el mismo primer tramo fue Niremberg Escalona.

Ya en el segundo cuarto, las cosas cambiaron, el equipo de la capital logró ganar 22-25, lo que convirtió el juego parejo, sin embargo, gracias a las apariciones de Butler, el medio tiempo terminó con victoria parcial para los de casa 37-34.

El tercer cuarto lo dominó Gaiteros 16 a 14, un juego que se vivió con gran intensidad, cansancio físico y mental para ambos equipos, fue imprescindible que se soltara Sebirumbi y Yanitson Quintero, quienes fueron claves en la ofensiva para ganar ese cuarto, fortalecieron la zona de la pintura y permitieron que el equipo dirigido por Nembhard pudiera irse con ventaja al último cuarto del partido.

No era nada fácil, el encuentro se había tornado parejo en toda la noche y se venían los minutos finales y decisivos. Gaiteros mermó y perdió el último cuarto 14 a 18, era una lucha entre el cansancio físico y el rival, cuando faltaban cinco minutos para terminar, Broncos perdía por diferencia de 8 puntos y recortó la distancia increíblemente hasta ponerse a tan solo 1 punto. En esos minutos finales, el determinante fue Chad Wellian quien logró conseguir 6 puntos que marcaron la diferencia y mantuvieron la ventaja de los locales.

En los últimos segundos, Bronco pudo cambiar la historia de este juego con Maccree, pero este falló en su tiro, de esta manera Gaiteros del Zulia consiguió su tercera victoria de la temporada y deja su récord en (3-2).

The victories for the Gaiteros del Zulia team are coming, although they have been hard-fought. This team is going through that moment of regaining the confidence of its fans, after a gray season last year. They have been tough games, first losing to Brillantes and then to Trotamundos, the current champion of the Superliga Profesional de Baloncesto (SPB). The important thing is that the wins have also been achieved, one against Brillantes itself, another against Héroes de Falcón and the last one, so far, against Broncos de Caracas, all with very short scores. In the last seconds, Bronco could have changed the history of this game with Maccree, but he missed his shot, in this way Gaiteros del Zulia got their third win of the season and leaves their record in (3-2).
