My Actifit Report Card: January 1 2025

Time for the second part of my Across the Years New Year's report for my 24 hour race.

Much of a 24 hour (and beyond) is a mental game as the psychological endurance is what will often limit our performance as opposed to our physical endurance - in that regard the second half or so of my 24 was the more challenging.
I had racked up about 52 miles at the 12 hour mark so 100 miles in 24 hours was possible. However by then I was power walking and had to maintain over 4 mph over the next half to accomplish that goal.

I would now concentrate on maintaining a strong pace while minimizing any stops - refueling and drinking would be on the go and I'd only stop to pee or switch clothes or shoes. I also did mental math to break the 2nd 12 hours into segments - ie half done, 8 hours to go, 4 hours to go and so on - while trying to maintain a positive outlook. A couple of times I ran a couple of loops just to try to add miles and push my body to do more and while it added just a couple of extra miles it was enough to push me past 90 miles total and up the results board.
Finally the clock was down to just 2 hours to go and dawn had come to shine the sun's light on the land and I had just 5 miles to cover to hit 90 miles. Those last hours were joyous yet exhausting as I contemplated what I had achieved and what my next goal would be.
I finished at 91.6 miles in 23 hours and 39 minutes and in the top 20 for now

I'm sore and exhausted but now I set my goal to hit 100 miles at the Jackpot Ultra in February.
