Sports Injuries- A Rising Challenge

Sports injuries are on the rise as the population ages and sports and fitness are recommended by physicians to stave off health issues.
Sports medicine is a discipline that focuses on the chronic and acute damage done during exercise and sports to the human body.
According to economic projections, the sports medicine field could grow to almost $12 billion by 2030. An increase in the number of elderly and the amount of sports leagues has contributed to a rise in overall injury rates from sports. Knee injuries are the most common, and the salaries of sports-medicine practitioners has grown to $77,000 which is substantial among American salaries overall.
Pandemic lockdowns contributed to record low sports injury rates in 2020, and a rebound is occurring that has sparked interest in 2021-2022. The amount of sports injuries increased to 3.2 million treatable in 2021, representing a 20% increase from 2020 levels.
The sports injury field is a good place to work, and as the injury rates and risk factors rise, we will see increased demand. I plan on writing a series on sports-injury prevention, and see this an opportunity to spread some knowledge on an important field.
