Sports betting was recently leaglized under SB 84, and sports betting will be legal on July 1st if this year. Kansas is surrounded by states that have not legalized sports betting. Kansas is surrounded by Missouri, Oklahoma and Nebraska, which have not leaglized sports betting as of yet. The geographic orientation of Kansas, progressive legalization and example of legalized sports betting it will set will make sports betting more likely to spread legally.
The fact that Kansas has legalized sports betting in the middle of the country makes it prime to expand sports betting close to it's borders. Kansas needs to set the example for the Midwestern United States and is set to take in $1-9 million in tax revenue that can be used for infrastructure and social services. Sports betting will be legal on July 1st, and all the major online sports betting platforms are lining up to partner with casinos and other physical locations.
As more states legalize sports betting, expect to see large operators including Caesars, MGM and Harrah's host more betting. Casinos, gas stations and online mobile gambling will become accessible to millions in neighboring states. Kansas needs to set the example and their parternships with major online casinos will determine the tax revenue and positives that will encourage others states to pursue legalization.
