Genesis Anniversary- My Actifit Report Card: November 18 2022
On 18 November 1974, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway was released, the most important album by the band Genesis and for many people the most important work in the history of progressive rock.
It was the sixth studio album recorded by Genesis and also marked the departure of Peter Gabriel from the band. The disagreements between the members of the group were increasing, which is why Peter Gabriel wrote the lyrics alone and the rest of the band composed the music. There was no joint work, so later on there were many problems to fit some parts with others, especially when the recordings were also made separately.
It is a concept album, something very common in the 70s, in which all the songs are related to each other based on a central story. In this case, the whole album revolves around a fictitious character created by Peter Gabriel, a Puerto Rican boy living in New York City who meets different and peculiar characters and experiences very deep personal stories and situations that transform him from an inner point of view.
Despite the many problems that appeared during composition and recording, the resulting work is wonderful, a great masterpiece of 20th century rock.
