My Actifit Report Card: November 8 2022
Today, November 8th, we celebrate the name days of many saints. From Justo to Gregorio through Mauro, Severino or Macario. But a character called Carpophorus, a name that is not very or not at all common, also attracts our attention.
Who was Carpophorus? Well, there are few references, but it seems that he was a gladiator of the Roman circus who specialised in fights against beasts. These gladiators were called "bestiaries" because they did not fight against other gladiators but only against wild animals previously trained to kill humans. It seems that Carpophorus was the most famous bestiarius of the Roman circus, killing up to 20 wild beasts in a single day.
Because of his conversion to Christianity he was persecuted, tortured and sentenced to death by stoning in the 4th century, which is why the Catholic Church made him a saint.
