My Actifit Report Card: November 6 2022
Today, 6 November, is International Saxophone Day. This date is used because it is the anniversary of the birth of Adolph Sax, a musician and instrument maker born in Belgium in 1814, who in the middle of the 18th century had the idea of building a new instrument halfway between a clarinet and a trumpet. The idea was to find something that would have the melody and musicality of woodwind instruments such as the flute or clarinet and at the same time have the power of brass instruments such as the trumpet. Thus the saxophone was born, which was soon adopted mainly by military orchestras and was later included in operas and orchestral compositions.
It gained its greatest prominence in the 20th century when it was widely used within jazz music and also with some frequency in pop and rock music.
