Elenin
27 September 2011 was to be the date of the beginning of the end of the world for a number of astrologers and conspiracy theorists. On that day a small comet of only 3 kilometres in diameter called Elenin was to pass between the Earth and the Sun and would be aligned with both, meaning that a straight line could be drawn through all three stars.
These doomsayers of human misfortune often predict great catastrophes in the form of earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions that will devastate our planet every time such an alignment occurs.
The reality is that the alignment had absolutely no effect on our planet and that the comet, which was mainly made of ice and rocks, eventually disintegrated as it approached the Sun.
