Memoir Monday #49. Six things I miss about the pre-pandemic world
A necessary introduction
No matter how much they want to sell us that the world has returned to normal, nothing will be like before this humanitarian disaster and for many years the traces of pain, scarcity, loss, confinement and lack of social friction will mark the existence of many human beings and, with each respiratory outbreak or other disease, we will be assaulted by the real ghost of that universal catastrophe.
The things that are missing
Those of us who managed to survive the pandemic are lucky because, despite everything we may have suffered and/or lost, we have the joy of life and we can try to be better human beings and contribute with our actions to making this world a better space. That is what should happen, but in reality it is not, because, according to what I observe daily, I miss many things that in a certain way adorned the pre-pandemic world.

What could these things be?
For many the criteria can be varied. In my case, these are the seven things I miss most before that pandemic arrived that threatened to disappear us forever:
• How happy we were with so little. Now we understand that we just needed a family reunion, the smile and joy of our loved ones and some other edible things, some music and the joy was enormous.
• The smile of those who lost loved ones. It is difficult for there to be a family that has not had the loss of a loved one or has not been affected by this calamity. That is why in each family the smile is not the same, the sadness is latent and if you ask them they would like their world to have stopped in the face of this health and human catastrophe.
• Visits to family and friends. This has been lost because many people have the trauma of contagion and avoid that friction, the effusive hugs and intimate relationships that presided over our interpersonal relationships have been lost.
• The value of human beings. The pandemic brought out, in many cases, the worst in human beings: selfishness, lack of solidarity, hidden evils and others who were not present or, as a friend of mine says, were asleep and woke up to create a nightmare among us.
•Celebrations and festivities. These were one of the activities that we enjoyed the most before the pandemic because we liked to celebrate birthdays, wedding anniversaries, festivals and other activities. Many of us were thinking about how to make these moments of celebration special and we found space for happiness and love in them.
• The hope of living in a better world. The shared efforts that had been built to live in a better world fell to pieces and the world is heading, if the global mentality is not changed, towards self-destruction because the global problems that affect humanity and the destruction of the environment attest to this.
A final comment
However, what hurts me most is that we have not learned the lesson and we continue to think and act as if life were infinite and we forget what is essentially important, by being attentive to personal selfishness and the desire for possession and power.
What do you think?

Life is the same but it feels so different after the pandemic. I don't know why but it feels a whole different world.
I like how you described the things you miss. Truly, our relationship changed. And we get to see the real faces of many people.
It is true that life goes on, but, inside many souls and the planet life is not the same. You describe it very well in your comment and I thank you because it enhances the publication. Happy journey. Cheers and greetings.
Feliz jornada. Salud y saludos.
I missed all the same things that you miss I think it's a quite shared feeling 🥰.
Thank you very much for your words and for stopping by.
I am glad to know that we share many of these criteria which shows that people like you see beyond material things and prefer to focus on the souls and feelings of human beings. Happy journey. Cheers and greetings.
Congratulations!
