Al parecer, en marzo me he empeñado en resaltar el desempeño de la mujer en el deporte. Tal vez porque es el mes que dedicamos a ellas o porque han venido ganando el protagonismo que, por derecho propio, les corresponde.

De cualquier manera, esta es otra publicación dedicada al sexo femenino, pero, con la particularidad de tener como protagonistas a las niñas, en un deporte no tan difundido ni tan popular por estos lugares.

Dicho lo anterior, quiero reconocer el trabajo realizado por un grupo de niñas de un municipio de la provincia Pinar del Río, la más occidental de Cuba, que este sábado retuvieron la corona nacional de softbol de las pequeñas ligas ganada en el 2023.

El softbol fue considerado durante mucho tiempo como el hermano menor del béisbol. Incluso, en muchos centros de nuestro país se utilizaba para personas que ya no podían batear las pelotas de béisbol debido a las velocidades a las que tenían que enfrentarse.

El softbol tiene mucha similitud con el béisbol, pero difiere en varias cosas como el tamaño de la pelota que es más grande, la distancia entre las bases es menor, al igual que la distancia de home a las cercas de los jardines. Debido al desarrollo de esta actividad deportiva, se convirtió en un deporte y, actualmente, pertenece a la Federación Internacional de Béisbol y Softbol.

Como en muchos deportes, en el softbol las damas han tenido que luchar contra estereotipos, fantasmas o eslogan que decían que este era un deporte para hombres. Poco a poco se han ido imponiendo y ya nos dan espectáculos deportivos como el que presencié este sábado entre dos equipos de niñas que nos dieron un ejemplo de lucha deportiva.

Qué emociones sentí al presenciar los dos partidos de la final. Antes de seguir decir que la final estaba pactada a tres partidos, el equipo que ganara dos se coronaba campeón.

Reitero que fue un par de partidos de entrega, amor a la camiseta y disciplina deportiva.

Las niñas de ambos equipos parecían guerreras luchando por conseguir una corona que representaba la coronación de muchos meses de entrenamiento, privadas de salir o jugar todo el tiempo que quisieran.

Fue lindo presenciar cómo las niñas de ambos equipos se ayudaban entre sí o se consolaban cuando una de ellas fallaba, cometía un error o no impulsaba la carrera que quería.

En el primer partido ganaron las niñas de la Palma por 12 x 4, demostrando una buena ofensiva, defensa aceptable y una mejor labor de sus lanzadoras.

El segundo encuentro fue más cerrado, pero, las niñas de las Palmas ganaron por 7 carreras por dos para sellar su corona nacional por tercera vez consecutiva.

Las Palmas fue el mejor equipo durante todo el evento y fue su justo ganador.

Para las niñas de Bayamo el reconocimiento y el abrazo a la distancia por tanta entrega y vergüenza deportiva.

Ahora, estas niñas buscarán el pase a la serie mundial de las pequeñas ligas en un torneo eliminatorio que próximamente acogerán las Islas Vírgenes estadounidenses.
