Let's take a deep dive into some interesting and mind-blowing records in the English Premier League. In this first edition, we'll be considering club records alone. Subsequently, we'll take a look at records set by players and managers as well.

The Genesis of EPL

Firstly, the Premier League which is
the top tier of England's football competitions began in 1992. In every season, the league allows for 20 teams who battle to be crowned English champions. Among these clubs are those who have been outstanding and notable in their endeavours.

Club Records in the EPL

Did you know that the EPL is 30 years old? Interestingly, out of the 30 times, the competition has been played, one football club has lifted the trophy 13 times. Guess the team - Manchester United. The Red Devils are those with the most Premier League title wins.

Manchester United lifted their 13 trophies in the following years: 1992/93, 1993/94, 1995/96, 1996/97, 1998/99, 1999/00, 2000/01, 2002/03, 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09, 2010/11 & 2012/13.

Biggest Premier League title-winning margin: The EPL is probably the most competitive football league. Most times, the champions win with very few point gaps. However, it was a different scenario in the 2017/2018 season. We saw the biggest winning margin so far.

Manchester City took the trophy home, giving the second position a 19 points gap. Incredible! I doubt if we'll ever see such a case/again but records must be broken.

Smallest Premier League title-winning margin: In the 2011/2012 EPL season, Manchester City won the league with no point gap but goal difference (+8 goal difference). Meaning, both the 1st position (Manchester City) and the second position had the same points. City lifted the trophy courtesy of a +8 goal difference. That's how competitive this league is.

Most Premier League wins in a season: Liverpool FC and Manchester City both share this record as they had the same number of most wins in a season (32) Manchester City won 32 times in the 2017/18 & 2018/19 seasons. In the 2019/2020 season, Liverpool FC equaled the record but couldn't win beyond 32 games.

On the other hand, Derby County has the fewest Premier League wins in a season. They won only 1 match in the 2007/2008 season to set this record. Not a good record by the way.

Most Premier League home wins in a season: The highest home wins so far is 18. Here, we have 4 teams sharing this record. Chelsea achieved it in 2005/2006. Manchester United did it in 2010/2011. Manchester City also reached the record in the 2011/2012 and 2018/2019 seasons. Just recently, Liverpool equally won 18 home games in the 2019/2020 season. All 4 teams recorded 18 home wins in one season alone and this is the highest number of home wins so far.

In the same vein, we look at the team with the most consecutive Premier League home wins. Liverpool FC holds this record after running a winning streak of 24 victories at Anfield. It happened between 9 February 2019 to 11 July 2020.

Similarly, the most consecutive Premier League away wins record was set by Manchester City after winning 12 away games in a stretch.

Most Premier League defeats in a season: The following teams lost a total of 29 games in just one season; Ipswich Town (1994/1995 season), Sunderland (2005/2006), Derby County (2007/08), and Sheffield United (2020/2021). Conversely, Arsenal has the fewest Premier League defeats in a season. The Gunners lost 0 matches in the 2003/2004 EPL season.

Did you know that the Longest Premier League unbeaten run record was set by Arsenal FC? They played 49 games between 7 May 2003 to 24 October 2004 without losing.

Likewise, the longest Premier League unbeaten home run was achieved by Chelsea. The Blues played 86 games at Stamford Bridge (between 21 February 2004 to 26 October 2008) without losing. Then, Manchester United has the longest Premier League unbeaten away run. The Red Devils played 29 away matches without any loss.

I hope you found these records interesting.

They must have earned that from numerous draw games.
