a trip to grandma house. My Actifit Report Card: April 14 2024
Today I'm at my moms house. It is nice to see my mom but the plane ride and 6 hours of driving means it is a long trip.
It's nice to be with my mom but her town is really really quiet. Other than the trains that took through regularly you might think there is no one here.
That's main street.
And the road my mom lives on.
Now as quiet as it is there are all the necessary amenities which is nice. My wife and I went on a nice still through town this morning.
Then I spent a bunch of time helping my mom with her taxes. I also had to teach her about heart failure. Her heart is failing and get energy is gone. She is coughing a lot and can't sleep lying down. Makes me fairly sad.
But she is still in good spirits and dreaming of buying a house to turn into an air B&B.
Mom also wanted to have a dinner feast for the family s my sister and my nephew also live in town.
... she didn't cook it but paid to have it catered 😀
Overall its great to see me mom but certainly a reminder that life is fleeting. A good reason to stay active and keep strong as long as possible.

Actually my Mom my kids grandma :)
Thank you. The town itself is hard to describe. However, when we walked down the street today everyone was passed was happy to see us, said hello, and chatted for a minute or two. Everyone knows each other (mostly) and everyone helps each other out. Strong sense of community.
House prices are 90% cheaper than where I live in Canada and there are a number of good paying jobs as well.
Sounds great...
....except winters can be brutally cold
....and its a pretty boring place. Not a lot of 'fun' things to do. There is a skating rink, pool, spa, theater and some other things but its a very small town (3500 people) so not a lot of services.
