A silly fight with my wife. My Actifit Report Card: February 12 2024

avatar

As you can see my son is all smiles. It was a good day today....mostlly.

But how did it start off? WIth walking the dog of course.

It is kind of funny. We took a different path than normal and he looked back as if to say "hey dad, this isn't out normal route". Still, if I have a chance why not take a different route?

After that I went out for a long walk to do errands.

Grab some bread at Dollarama to make some sandwiches with.

Head to the bank to do some banking.

Head to the deli to grab some meat for those sandwiches.

Head to the park through yet a different entryway. Haven't seen that viewpoint on this blog before :)

Overall it was a bright, clear, crisp day. There was a sprinkle of rain in the air but overall I stayed dry even without an umbrella.

However, the biggest part of the day was accompanying my son to buy his first car where he paid for it. Months of looking at all sorts of different brands. Test driving lots of different models and weighing every possible aspect of the purchase. All came together with my son buying this vehicle

He is now the proud owner of a 2015 VW Golf GTI. I will admit that it wouldn't be my choice of vehicle as I would choose more practical and less expensive. However, it isn't my decision and my son thought long and hard about HIS decision.

It made me proud to see the smile on his face and know that he learned something from the process. I was a little sad when he wanted to immediately go and show off to his friends. I do understand it though.

After that I got word from my older son that he found a permanent place to rent in North Vancouver that is even affordable! Now that may not seem like much but he has been looking for over 6 months now. The room had over 60 applicants for it as it is a nice location. The fact that it is 60% cheaper than his current rent is also really nice!

My older son also old me that he has finally met a nice girl after many dates that didn't end well. New place, new girlfriend and good job...I'm proud of him too.

That leaves the question: What was the "silly fight" with my wife?

Simple: I'm proud of my sons. They are growing into fine young men. They are intelligent, hardworking and capable. They are taking steps to be independent and able to stand on their own. I was so happy for both of them in their achievements.

.....it seems that didn't go over well with my wife.

She sees her babies growing up and is upset they are leaving home (well, not my younger one for a long time...). Still she took my happiness for my sons as me not caring about them leaving. Sure I'll miss my sons but I think we have different viewpoints.

As a father I think I did a good job raising my children if they become responsible and independent adults. Of course, becoming Christian Men would be my ultimate goal for them....but that decision is entirely their own. My wife...well, she wants to mother them forever. I understand that and she will always be mom just the role of mom changes and I'm not sure she's ready for that.

Either way,

Today was a good day

Thanks for dropping by.

And of course who knows what tomorrow will bring :)

Congratulations to your son on his new purchase. Volkswagen (Belgium) products are strong and I once used a Gulf 4. The problem with it was mostly electrical however, when I had gear issue, it was the cord that broke the Carmel's back. I wish him a long and seamless use of his new ride.

Being able to purchase a vehicle by oneself as a growing adult is a great achievement and for us here, costs a lot of sweats.

No mother is happy seeing their children leaving them at the onset. Gradually it begins to dawn on them and they gradually begin to detach. My mom still wanted and wants me all around her.

As much as we want to go far and independent as children, we try to look back and maybe that's a part reason I'm within the vicinity of my parent's residence

My son has been working very hard for the past year. Taking extra shifts, working many hours and saving a large portion of his paycheque. In addition he is working hard to get good grades (straight 'A's last report) and heading to the gym 5 days a week to keep his body strong. Even still he will have to work even harder if he wants to get into Medical school here. I just keep hoping and praying.

As for mom's wanting their babies nearby. I think that's universal. My mom still wishes I could move closer to her but with my own family that's not going to happen :)

As for your car...sorry to hear it died on you and I know how expensive to fuel up there (even worse here). I needed to stress to my son how important it is to take care of your vehicle properly. Poor maintenance or hard driving can kill your car and I hope he drive it for many years to come :)

Thanks for dropping by :)

You're right, buying a car is a project on its own, maintaining it is another huge subconscious project
