Garbage Day. My Actifit Report Card: July 31 2023

avatar

As always today starts off with me walking the dog. What else is new?

Well, today was garbage day. Sort of.

We have a rotation. Every week compostables can go out. Every other week we get rid of garbage. The alternate week we get rid of recycleables.

Today was recycleable day.

Now I always get after my wife about actually sorting the right stuff into the recycleable bin. Yes, I know a lot of recycleable material just ends up in the landfill anyways, but still have to try.

Today I have proof that it does make a difference if you sort or not.

The city does say NO to unsorted garbage in the recycle bin and the picture above is proof.

Other than the dog walk in the morning I had to go get camping snacks for my son in the afternoon.

I had to do a bunch of paperwork and housework.

Then in the evening I took my dog for his second walk.

Had to admire the fruits that are just becoming rype.

Blackberries are coming.

Plums are coming

Pears are coming.

Persimmons...well, they have a way to go still.

Apples are coming too.

Overall, I got my 15k steps in.
Got all my bills paid off....(in full, horray)
Got a lot of paperwork done.

Now I just have to concentrate on cleaning up my son's old room mate's room.

It's pretty awful.

That's just under the bed...the carpet is also terrible :(

But that's a post for another time.

Thanks for reading.

Until tomorrow :)

Wait, Are those fruits tree growing in the neighborhood?
Call that buddy to tidy up that room.
A kid shouldn't dirty the house and leave it for adult to clean up.
Plus I love how you look after your son and care for his needs and even helping him with little task here and there.

Yes. Those fruits are from a house 5 doors down from mine. I have a couple fruit trees in my backyard but they are very young so not really much to photograph.

As for my son's room mate. He was actually 50+ years old. The picture you saw was from AFTER he cleaned his room for a day. After I cleaned the room for TWO days. When my son went into his room the first day he said "Dad...the room smelled soooo bad..... I couldn't breathe. It smelled like air freshener and .... cancer".

I'm only cleaning because I don't want to spend $500 to replace the carpets. I'm trying to see if there is any way I can save them....Although the candle was in the carpet, hair dye in the carpet, even bubblegum in the carpet....

I think I'm fighting a losing battle.

As for my son...He's working full time (40hrs/week) and overtime (10-18hrs extra) and driving 70km a day (3hrs daily) so I think as a Dad its my duty to help out.

Then again I'm pretty proud. He's making more than I am (2500HBD monthly) and is only 19...

Oh yeah... he's also going to the gym regularly to get his body in shape, and coming to church with us on his day off (Sunday).

50+ years is understandable but not a good reason to be dirty.. At least we were taught how to clean our rooms from teenage years, If that habit had stayed with him, he wouldn't be getting a room this dirty.

It is a blessing to have supportive parents and I am glad that you are one.

I really wanted to help Gary (my sons roommate). He had a pension of $2400/ month for life but because of bad budgeting and poor adulting skills he is now homeless with nothing.

I really wanted to show him the possibilities and how to be frugal. But he was too proud to accept my help. When he put the house at risk by logging candles on the floor and forgetting about them and burning the carpet I had to evict him with no place to go.

I felt terrible but would feel worse if my family became homeless.

Jezzzzzzzzzz....

That is terrible.
It is a best decision at hand.
We can only hope for the best for him since he is not teachable.
