Trip to Vancouver....again...My Actifit Report Card: April 4 2023
Grey calm day in the morning. Chilly but still OK to walk the dog and get some steps.
I did have one thing that kind of annoyed me during the walk though.
Feel free to comment if you think I'm being petty. However, you can see the road that I'm walking on in the first picture. Quiet calm road with a sidewalk for myself and my dog and a bike path right beside it.
If you look on the second picture you will notice that it is a well marked bike path. Also there are virtually no cars on the road.
What annoyed me? If you look in the first picture there is a bike coming towards me on the sidewalk. There was plenty of opportunity to move to the bike lane but no... they decided to stay on the sidewalk and I had to corral my dog against the trees on the small grassy patch so we didn't get run over.
If the road was busy or had no bike lane then I'd understand. I'm not so petty that I believe the sidewalk is all mine.
However, look at the road. Why not use the bike lane? Why come towards myself and an 85lb dog on the sidewalk? I just don't understand.
But on with my day.
My son had to pick up his tools from work as he will be on medical leave for up to 6 weeks. Burnaby is a suburb of Vancouver and about 50km from my home. Leave in the morning and take him to the jobsite.
Then continue into Richmond where I find the park and ride to take the SkyTrain. $3/day for parking verses Vancouver at $52/day!
I take the Skytrain to my friends house in Vancouver because today is his driver test day to get his full license. However, he can't drive his car to the test center alone so I go there so he can take the test.
He PASSED, horray and congratulations! Kind of boring for me while I'm at the Drivers testing site waiting while he takes his test so I went out to get a few more steps.
It was a nice quiet part of Vancouver
Where the cherry blossoms are in bloom.
And there is the drivers testing location.
After he got his licence he rushed home because he had an online class to teach.
And that meant that I waved goodbye and took the Skytrain to the YVR Airport (Vancouver airport, located in Richmond). It was nice that the skytrain took us right there. I had always used airport parking but it is so expensive. This time I thought I'd try public transit.
I will absolutely be using public transit in the future when I go to the airport. The train went right to the airport but then I had to sit for an hour and a half while waiting for my in-laws to get through customs and immigration. Drove them home, then time to take dog out for walk...again.
Very late night by this time.
Saw a pretty full moon, headed home, and watched a bit of TV before heading off to bed to repeat my day tomorrow.
Thanks for reading,
Until tomorrow

Vancouver is the most beautiful city in Canada. The best people in Canada are from Saskatchewan, however. ;)
Hehe. Does it count that my mother, sister, and nephew all live in Unity Saskatchewan? Also, I own a property in Unity that I hope to retire to at some point in the future. Maybe I'm aspiring to be one of those best people :D

It counts for sure! lol
I always wanted to go to Vancouver, I heard it's a nice city... May be one day...The streets seem pretty empty...
If ever you decide you are coming to Vancouver let me know. My wife and I love showing people around the area and I'm sure she would make you family quickly. I'm awkward around people so I wouldn't be much fun as a guide but my wife is much better company :) I'm more the guy who can direct you to doing the trip on a shoestring budget 😊
As for quiet streets... Vancouver has terrible traffic in the downtown, not Manila bad but still pretty bad. I live in a suburb and am walking at 7am so things are pretty quiet here. To truly see the beauty of Vancouver you want to see the mountains, rivers, lakes, beaches and so on. Best of all most of those are free to visit.
