Football ~ The beautiful game

If you look at my Social Media Profiles then you see Rangers Chelsea Real Madrid

They are my teams, of course I am a bluenose, I am a Rangers Fan.

Glasgow Rangers formed in 1872 it is more than a way of life, it is life.

Rangers Till I Die, No Surrender, We Are The People, bluenoses, The Teddy Bears... I could go on and on...

I shudder to think how many thousands and thousands of pounds I have spent over the years following them all over Scotland and Europe.

It has brought me joy and plenty of tears!

Being a football in Scotland and Northern Ireland of a certain age, then often if you were Protestant you supported Rangers, and if a Roman Catholic you supported Celtic....

People say that is all nonsense now, especially the Celtic fans, they will say Rangers fan are all bigots...

But if you goto an Old Firm football match ... that is a match between Rangers and Celtic the two flags you see are The British Union flag flown by Rangers fans and the Irish flag flown by Celtic fans ....

But you are in Scotland so don't get me that nonsense it is just Rangers fans etc etc

Of course we are in 2024, Rangers have Catholics playing for them, anyone and everyone is our aim, it does not matter who you are!

At school little Tengo was sports mad. We played rugby and cricket.

I started out as a right winger in Rugby but moved up the backline and ended up playing scrum half. Bear in mind I was six foot by the time I was 14 and generally scrum half's are small, so I had fun flattening the wee shits!

I actually made two appearances for the Scottish schoolboys, one a home victory over Wales and the other a disputed draw against England, where they scored a dubious try right at the death!

My arthritis stopped me going further, but that was a high standard.

In summer we played cricket, I being the school's number one off spinner!

For fun it was football. I went to public school so the only people who got to play football were the kids who were no good at football!

It is clear that one is a gentleman’s game played by hooligans; the other a hooligan’s game played by gentleman.

Can you guess which is which?

This was a quote from a Chancellor of Cambridge University...

There are alliances and friends in football.

When I grew up, this was long before the silly TV money that has ruined football.

Rangers were one of the original 8 teams from where the 8 stars come from.

At that time, we had some of Europe's top players and indeed took the English captain and goalkeeper, not to mention Gazza, Celtic had great players, we both won European trophies.

Those days are gone, TV money has killed that. It mirrors life, the rich get richer.

So it comes to our alliances, Chelsea in England. We used to be called the Blues Brothers, and indeed when in London, I would go to Stamford Bridge, that was before Abramovich...

I saw Norwich humuliate us 3-0 at home, but then I also went to White Hart Lane where we won our first game of the season.

Live football matches, you can't beat it. Supporting a team in another country, nah go and see them in the flesh... That is what it is all about!

Then you can say how good or bad they are...

So yes for my European adventures then all I can say is Hala Madrid.

I have seen them in the flesh plenty of times, it helps having worked in Madrid hehe!

Yeah football I love it, but it is for kids now.

I am old school, I was there before the woke world came into being, before things became PC.

We had fun and we bantered, yes fans fought, but that was part of it. They knew it and we knew it.

Now you can't even sing songs without getting fined or arrested.

Yeah I miss those days.

God Save The King

Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoyed my response to the prompt.
