Leaving Las Vegas: The Mets Buy Their Way Out

It has happened....or it will.
The NY Mets are leaving Las Vegas. According to a report by Rob Piersall at Metsmerizedonline, the owners of the Mets reached an agreement to buy the AAA team in Syracuse, NY. This means that 2018 will be their last season in Las Vegas.
Over the past few seasons, the Mets organization had the most distance to travel when calling up players. Being located in Nevada and playing in a league that went out to Washington and Oregon often meant that players had to embark upon an overnight flight to make it for a game the next evening. Now, the Mets AAA affiliate will be only a few hours from the parent club's home in NYC.
Sandy Alderson, the Mets G.M., noted that he felt the players coming up from Vegas were unprepared for the big leagues causing him to overhaul the AAA coaching staff. While I am sure most of the blame goes there, perhaps the location in Vegas had something to do with it. Vegas is known as one of the worst minor league parks in all of professional baseball and the travel horrific.
This is, overall, a very positive development for the Mets. As an added bonus, the present affiliation for Syracuse is the Washington Nationals. After next year, their AAA team will be looking for a new home.
I hear Vegas is open.
