Olympic Pin BUST πŸ“‰ --or-- Olympic Memories

Well this is kind of funny.

I just started this post about my small Olympic pin collection then I got this text from my dad.

I had forgotten about that. I was 13 years old when we moved from Chicago to LA, the summer of the 1984 Olympics. My pop got transferred to an office in San Dimas, CA and one of the perks that year were some free Olympic tickets πŸŽ‰

Mom, dad, my brother, and I saw a day of track and field events at the LA Coliseum. That was impressive. Not the athletics so much for me, but the 90,000+ capacity stadium full of people.

I saw handball at Cal State University Fullerton and volleyball at Long Beach Arena, both with my mom.

I remember my dad went to boxing, I think he took my brother.

I still have my ticket stubs ;) but this is a pin post sooooo

This is most of my Olympic pin collection. If you are not familiar, pin trading is a big thing at the games. Or, at least it was in 1984. I remember people everywhere during the games, and part of that was vendors. Anywhere there was an event or a large amount of people, there were vendors.

Then regular folks would trade pins. People just milling about in a crowd or at some ancillary event would trade pins. I bought a few then traded a few and so on. I think I had about 10 back then.

Fast forward to 1996 when my folks went to the Atlanta Olympics as guests of IBM through my dads company, which worked closely with IBM. They brought me back that purple wallet full of Atlanta Olympic pins. He was recently telling me stories of the VIP tents and parties they were invited to as company guests!

I'm no longer interested in these pins. they're neat and all but the fun is in the memories of that time, and I don't need the pins to remember it. I asked my kids and they looked at me like I asked them if they wanted a flaming bag of dog shit xD

So, to eBay I went! Maybe some kid is out there in France right now has Olympic fever, money, and an eBay account πŸ€‘

I put five separate pins up for sale a day and a half ago and exactly 0 (ZERO) people have looked at any of them :|

Just going to wait it out and see what happens before I bother posting the rest.

Have a #sporty day πŸ€Έβ€β™€

Nobody cares about Olympic pins. I had a whole crazy ass collection of them from my grandfather. Literally hundreds of them from all the way back to the sixties. I think that I got $40 for them all.

I remember back in 84 when McDonalds did the thing with the medals and winning free food or drink if your event on the ticket got a medal. When I was a kid, I would walk along the road by McD's and find them and then take them to get free food and drink. LOL

They are cool momentos, and there must be a collector's market. At least I would assume there is!
