Yes, many surfers don't even bother watching the WSL events. Surfing is a lot more fun to do than watch...
The few nutcases like me try to watch when the timezone allows either way. I'd be interested to see if it really does increase the viewership and any actual revenue for the WSL and sponsors.
My understanding is that more people surf than ever, but the surf industry itself is dying as the clothing is not really the main fashion anymore. I can't afford to buy surf branded clothes and find local Reef (not Reef Brazil) wetsuits to last longer than the brand names as well anyway!
Totally so and (although I couldn’t afford it), I never had the inclination to want a R600 equivalent pep store t-shirt priced like that because it had “Rip Curl” printed on it. I enjoy surfing for the personal stolk/ feel/ being out there etc……not yuppy side and enjoy that you seem the same.
