Morning Run: parkrun 47 in the mud
I just finished a 4.997km running that lasted about 0hh:27mm:9ss !
After a couple of frosty nights it was slightly warmer today, but a bit wet. When I crossed the railway bridge a goods train was coming through, but it was going really slowly. I wonder if that is to keep the noise down as it passes Arlesey. It started to rain a little as I walked around the course to the start, but was not too bad really. This did mean the course was muddy.
I went off quite quick at the start and ploughed through the really muddy part. You do have to be wary of slipping. Other parts were just slippery, so I was being cautious. The leaders soon left me behind and I was on my own for a lot of the race apart from a couple of people overtaking me. I could not sustain the initial pace, but just tried to keep going. I was following a lady for most of it and another came past near the end. They were the quickest two females and I managed to finish in the top third.
I think the mud will have slowed me down a bit, but the course will not dry out much over winter. I was looking through the finishers and spotted someone my other half works with doing her first parkrun. We keep getting new people and I expect there will be a few wanting to start the new year well.
I managed to jog some of the way home to have a nice shower and my usual coffee. That was supplemented by a stroopwafel as someone gave us a pack for Christmas.
I will hit my 50th parkrun soon. I had hoped to get it some time ago, but COVID got in the way.
Run free and stay well.
