Morning Run: parkrun 44
I just finished a 4.997km running that lasted about 0hh:26mm:15ss !
I missed parkrun last week, but was back today. It was a nice, crisp morning, but I was expecting it to be muddy due to recent rain. When I got there I noticed the lake was partially frozen over, so it must have been pretty cold overnight. A friend was marshalling, so I had a little chat with him as we walked to the start.
I think there were a fair few people new to parkrun or the course. I hope they had their trail shoes. There is a stretch just after the start that is in permanent shade and so never properly dries out. That was very muddy in places and that slows me down a little as I pick my way through it. A few other places were also slippery, but generally the course is not too bad.
I often find myself wondering why I put myself through this, but I keep going anyway. Once the field sorted itself out I was mostly on my own with people in front too far ahead for me to have a chance of catching and I could hear someone behind me. I was just trying to maintain my position and pace.
I did check my lap times as I went on and they were not too bad. My watch said 26:15 as I crossed the line and the official time was a couple of seconds quicker. Not my best, but better than last time and okay given the conditions. It was a smaller field of only 61 runners (and walkers).
As usual I walked some of the way home, but started jogging when I felt able. I need to keep working on my fitness if I want to improve. I was home and showered before some people finished walking the course.
I include a photo of my slightly muddy legs for my fan @dickturpin.
Run free and stay well.

Those look like some good shoes for the conditions. I'm not much of a runner these days, but I do like to hike and when I do, my Merrell's have never let me down.
You need something with grip on that course, but sometimes you are just in deep mud. My feet did not get too wet this time though. Good shoes matter for any outdoor activity.
