Sprints around the fields

avatar

We have a long weekend for the Queen's jubilee, so I could have a lie-in today. I still wanted to run though. The weather has been mixed with some rain and hail this week, but it was okay out there this morning. I put on my trail shoes and headed for the fields to do some intervals.

This is an interval my friend Jon got me into where you do 800m fast and then recover over 200m. I did these around a loop of farm tracks. There were just a few dog walkers around to wonder what I was doing.

Workout

I am happy enough to have managed around 5min/km on the sprints, but I did get slower as it went on and I needed to walk on the recovery sections. This is the sort of pace I would like to be able to sustain, but I have to train my body to do it and that is what this workout is intended for.

I have the workout programmed into my Garmin watch, so it just buzzes each time I need to change pace. I was not sure if it was five or six sprints, so it was a surprise to have to do one more. I took it easy on the way home. There was nobody swimming in the river today, but they may have been there earlier.

Selfie

This was after coming back over the railway bridge. People need to watch out for that missing slab. It does get a bit overgrown around there.

I had some breakfast when I got back. I was really warm by then, but I tend to splash my face with cold water to cool down a bit. As I finished eating I heard a lot of noise and was in time to see four military helicopters flying over. They may be going somewhere for the jubilee. I am no royalist, but I am not against people having a party. My band are playing at two events over the weekend. I hope the weather is good for those who will be outside.

Helicopters

Run free and stay well.

800m cannot be considered a "SPRINT" but a tough medium-distance interval repetition that has to be run a little bit above your lactate threshold.
In any case, you did a good workout.

It feels like a sprint to me :) I just give it what I can to push myself harder.

Nice job on your run! I didn't want to get up and workout this morning, but my wife pointed out that we were already awake, so why not. I did a scaled back version of the circuit training that I have been doing. Best of luck with your gigs this weekend!

Cheers. You have to make exercise part of your routine really. I've also done some gardening today.

I don't think I am going to get a garden in this year. I wanted to, but I am just running out of time now. We still are looking at the potential for some frost his coming weekend. Makes it hard to feel confident about putting a garden in the ground!

We are just trying to keep things tidy. Grass and ivy are taking over.

I might try and pop out for the gigs, but i'm not celebrating the jubilee. Bit tight at the moment so i might stay at home and play with my new pedal. Do wish i could run, i think those days are behind me for the time being, maybe when i lose a bit of the weight.

I'm timekeeping at parkrun on Saturday if you want to wander down to watch. May be less people around this week.

Well done @steevc that's a great effort. I saw someone out doing intervals this morning by our riverside walk. I was just thinking that I should change my standard running routes to do something similar.

For myself, I did 10 km this morning but I didn't see any fly bys.

Enjoy your long bank holiday weekend.

Well done on 10km. I think workouts like mine help with speed if that matters to you.

We also saw the WWII planes fly over that were part of the display in London. Those planes are about 70 years old!

Have fun.

I will give it a go. My area is quite hilly so my pace is usually quite varied on my route but I don't currently do any sprints.

Those old planes are awesome aren't they. A hell of a sound. I think watching the fly by in London would have been nice. I am just not into the crowds and not really a royalist either. It feels like an institution that has survived beyond its time.

Mind you, not sure I would want a president for the UK either.

Hills are good for a workout. I run up one a few times on other outings.

A ceremonial president might do instead of royals. Let them just do it for a few years with no powers. Other countries do that.

It would have to be without powers. Let's see what happens but I can't see the royals surviving after the Queen.

Enjoy your weekend

800m fast sounds very challenging, but I don't run at all so everything would be a challenge for me haha.

Good luck on stage this weekend with your band.

It is more than a sprint as someone else said, but then real runners go much faster than me over that distance. You have to train your body to do these things. I want to be able to run that fast for 5km and that is more of a challenge.
