steevc just finished a 8.78km run, that lasted for 67 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 708.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
I could hear a lot of rain and high winds in the night, so I was slightly dreading the run this morning. It was not actually too bad when I got out. The Henlow Bridge Lakes course is quite sheltered from the wind. As I got to the station I saw one of the regular runners, Alan, parking his car. He is over 70 and not much slower than me. We had a chat as we walked to the start. We could see that parts of the course were very wet and the mud was slippery, although not too deep.

When we got to the start we found that it had been moved a little. A tree had fallen and it would have been tricky for everyone to squeeze past. They moved the finish to compensate.

Given the conditions I could not expect a fast time, so I took it fairly gently. It was only really slippery for about half the lap with some parts improved by bark chippings and others are just less muddy. I ought out the less trampled parts to find more grip, but my trail shoes still struggled and I was sliding around a lot. Anyone in road shoes would find it really hard.

I got around without falling over and overtook a few people on the last lap. The finishing straight was longer than usual with some of it really muddy and the last part okay on the grass so I could do a sprint.

A time of nearly 28 minutes is slow for me, but about what I expected.

I jogged most of the way home. My legs were pretty muddy and it makes me wonder how much mud people take away from the course over a year. By the time I had showered and got a coffee it was raining hard again, so I was lucky to miss that.

Run free!

Wind and rain makes for a slower time, you'll hit the 100 this year I think! Quite the milestone!

Winter is not generally when you get fast times, but you can build your stamina. I definitely want to hit 100 runs and maybe 25 volunteering sessions too. I hoped to get there sooner, but COVID got in the way. We have a good crowd at this parkrun. Some people only volunteer and never run.

Finished your run bravely which is a big deal. This is very difficult to do in inclement weather

Well done getting out to Parkrun this morning and braving the elements. 28 mins is still get, especially in the slippery conditions.

I hope now that my health is improving I can get back into Parkrun again myself in the next couple of weeks.

I was happy to get around without a fall. I was wondering if it was actually safe. It's a different kind of workout.

Hope to see you running soon.

Our local councils close parks and recreational areas pretty quickly if there's too much rain which makes parkrun follow suit. Which in turn leads to a mad scramble to see if we can make to a parkrun with a raised concrete path !LOL luckily we have a lot locally to choose from.

I was thinking I have not done a muddy one yet but we have done a couple over the years usually at the Winery. Were one of there tracks turn into a bit of a boggy hole. It is funny to watch lots of people try to run around with the occasional person going straight through the middle. I am more a straight through the middle guy, reminds me of the good old cross country school days.

I know some people say they love mud, but I can't say I'm a big fan. I'll still go through it sometimes, especially near the end of the run. This one is on private land, so it's up to the owners if they let it go ahead. parkrun must cause some extra wear to the path. I know a lot of people went for the hard path option on new year's day, but I opted for the mudbath. I just couldn't be bothered to drive elsewhere.

Of course the mud is unlikely to improve much before the spring, so I'll see how it goes.
