Morning Run: Once around the airfield
steevc just finished a 16.45km run, that lasted for 96 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 1275.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
The weather is a bit of a lottery lately, but it was looking good this morning. As I write this we have blue skies and it stayed dry for my long run. I was marshalling again at parkrun yesterday, so I ought to have more energy than usual as I did not run. I did a run I thought about the other week. I am avoiding muddy trails, so I stuck to decent footpaths.
The road from Arlesey to Henlow is a bit busy for my liking, but it was better once I turned off towards Henlow Camp, although the path is rough in places. This RAF base is about 100 years old and is due to shut down fairly soon. They have a grass airstrip, but there are no military flights from there. They do have an old jet by the gate that I ought to have taken a photo of.
I looped around the base up past the greyhound track where there are some new houses and on towards Shefford. That is a bit of a climb, but I was feeling pretty good. I took the selfie at the top of the hill by a house I have always been curious about. It seems to have a room at the top with windows all around. I have heard that it was something to do with the base and that could watch the planes from there.
There was a nice downhill stretch after that. Then it was back along familiar roads through Clifton and Henlow. I did take the track past Champney's to join the parkrun course where it was a little muddy.
I would not want to have run much further today, but I will try to extend these runs gradually.
I listened to an interesting podcast that interviewed a developer of the Ardour audio software I use to record my music. I also had Chasing Tone that is all about guitars.
It is looking like another wet week coming up, but I will try to get out and run anyway.

A great effort around the airfield my friend and incidentally we also visited an airfield today.
But for a different reason, as I wanted to take some photos of the activities.
I stopped my love for running in 1980 after a near death motorbike accident that left my left leg 25millimeters shorter, so I can only hop around like a monkey.
These guys were taking a plane for refueling.
Have a !BEER for your effort my friend.
They fly gliders and some small planes from this place. A friend got his pilot's licence there.
Great to see that it's still in use Steve, gliders are fun to get on camera.
I had a glider lesson a few years back at another site. A great way to see the local landscape.
Wow! That must have been an amazing experience. Things must have looked very different from up there!
Hello steevc
A hill tracking needs more stamina.Good job sir.
I love your spirit. You talk about the base and someone has commented with a photo of it.😃😃
That photos is in South Africa. A long way from where I was running :)
Hahah I thought he visited the same hill😂😂
We don't have mountains like that around here.
That behind you.. is something you should check out!
