Morning Run: A load of rubbish
@steevc just finished a 13.97km run, that lasted for 87 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 1054.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
I was marshalling at parkrun yesterday where we had a great turnout. It must have been the good weather as there was no special event on. I was busy in the garden for the rest of the day, so it was time for a run this morning. With the clocks changing we lost an hour, so I went back to sleep after I initially woke up.
It is lovely and sunny, but quite windy. I had a route in mind, but I improvised a bit. I started by heading up to Fairfield. There were several piles of rubbish up the drive and at first I assumed that someone had been fly-tipping. I think it is actually the result of some clearing up as the piles were fairly neat. There were a couple of car wheels in there and also an old Sony TV where the tube had been smashed. That must have been there years.
I joined the road on the other side of Fairfield with a few runners ahead of me. I passed a couple of guys and then turned off into Standalone farm to get away from the cars. It has been a while since I did this route. I took the road from Letchworth into Norton with a diversion around some back roads to the old pond and then off across the fields. I went down the hill that you run up for Letchworth parkrun. It was not at all muddy, but there were big ruts where the tractors have been. In all this route had parts of the parkrun, Standalone 10k and the Greenway Half. I did about a third of a marathon. I had the wind against me across the fields and most of the way back, so it was hard work.
I came back to Arlesey through Stotfold taking the direct route as I knew I had done enough. I tried to keep the pace fairly steady so that I would be able to keep going, but I am feeling it now.
That is my longest run in a while and I am getting back to what I was doing a while ago. I can keep working on the pace. My back is still a little sore, but it does not bother me much when running.

Not that I think you need more motivation Steve, because you get out there all on your own. But yesterday my wife showed me this study, that basically proves that staying, keeping muscles good, basically ensures a healthy life.
In other words. Yes, eating right is great, not drinking is excellent, not smoking, awesome. But they are cups of water in the pool of consequence. Staying active is "the final boss".
I have to ask, mainly because of my personal experience. How do your knees do with all this running?
I eat fairly well with a few treats, but I spend a lot of time sitting, so I need to get out and exercise. I quite enjoy being out there exploring the area.
My knees are totally fine. I know some runners have issues with them, but I'm not doing massive distance every week.

I always wonder how does that rubish get to such place. Somebody needs to put loads of effort to drag it there, often more than taking it to the nearest waste collection place (at least here in Czechia, where these places are free to use by anybody local - towns and villages run their own, cities have multiple).
There are issues with fly-tipping. Sometimes it will be commercial waste that they would have to pay to dispose of. For household waste we have the free dumps.

But a great effort, good to see you getting back to some longer runs, the lovely weather deffo helps with that!
I hate seeing litter out and about on a run, I'll pick up the odd crisp packet here and there if I see it, but not much I can do about about abandoned care tyres. Littering winds me up so much, it exists due to sheer laziness from people, who just don't care about the world they live in. Urgh!

I had to look up the term "fly-tipping" since this is not in my known terminology. Turns out it is illegal dumping. No matter how you say it, this is bad behavior. Glad in your case, it was part of a clean up operation.

was this the 10+ Km run you were talking about you were going to do? In that timeframe I can only run about 10, so you are faster than me. I am doing a reasonably good job at pacing, but I still need a bit of work. Like most people I tend to start out too fast and gas our after about 5k, then keep going and by the time I finish I am sure I look like a crippled old guy that is being chased by zombies
I tend to do 6 or 7km runs in the week and then at least 10km at the weekend. Starting too fast is a common mistake and I do it too. I take a while to warm up and get going properly. I'm worn out by the end, but then I can take time to recover, although I may well have jobs to do. I'll keep on trying to do this to maintain my fitness and not worry too much about things like races.
