steevc just finished a 7.01km run, that lasted for 42 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 511.0 calories.

Description from Strava:
The weather just keeps on changing. Sunday was really hot, but it has cooled down since then with some heavy rain at times. This morning was grey, but dry.

I did my usual loop to stretch my legs, which are still suffering from various issues. The discomfort does not persist, so I play it by ear and I think I am okay to keep running. I did not push too hard today, but the pace was okay. It just takes me a while to get going properly and the second half was quicker. Mind you, that has more downhill.

I have been trying to kick my heels up a little more when I run as it at least feels quicker. I have not really worked much on running technique, but I feel it ought to make some difference. I see others run much quicker than me without appearing to be trying too hard. I have never had any proper running coaching.

For breakfast I had the usual granola with some raspberries from the garden. Lately I have been adding some chia seeds that claim to have some benefits for muscles and bones. I also take a daily multi-vitamin. I eat fairly well, but do not eat any meat.

I think the brain needs exercise too. My work involves a lot of problem solving, but I like to do some daily puzzles. I do Wordle and Connections on the NYT site plus Framed. Some of the movies on the latter are too obscure for me. I am also on a 500 day streak learning French on Duolingo. I do not watch many quiz shows, but we enjoy Only Connect for some lateral thinking.

Run free and think hard.

Great run, @steevc! Sounds like you're finding a good balance between pacing yourself and working on technique. Keep it up.

It's all about balance. I accept that I'll never be super quick, but I'd like to improve. It's a battle against ageing.

Somehow I'm able to relate to that; my energy and agility are no longer as good as when I was in my mid-20s. My photowalks and posting about my exploring in my city help in getting me back in shape. Sitting in front of the computer (for my job) has affected my overall health.

I've been trying my best to get back in shape over the past few months now.
All the best to you.

I hope your leg heals or your running gets better and easier over time. 🍻

Have you read the Born to Run Book by Christopher McDougall. He is all about cadence and technic and he also tells a good storey about how we are designed to run.

I probably ought to read more books and watch videos about running. Not read that one. Running is one of those things we tend to do by instinct, but people have gone deep on studying it.

Sorry, nothing I can do about it. It was just an episode of Only Connect.

We are heading the opposite way. We have had some really nice days and now today it is supposed to get warmer. Then over the weekend the bottoms drops out and it looks like Fall might be here early! I started adding a bit of speed to my exercise routine. I bumped the 1 minute stretches up to 5 MPH today instead of the regular 4 MPH and it really kicked my butt. My wife has recently started playing Contexto. It's quite interesting.

It is feeling like autumn/fall today. I just went outside and it was raining a little.

Going quicker is hard, but you have to push yourself sometimes.

I've not seen that puzzle before. There are so many out there, but doing a couple each day is satisfying. I quite like a cryptic crossword too.

I'm trying to get to the point where I can maybe do my whole 20 minute workout at the 4 MPH pace. Then I will go up from there. I'd like to be able to get down to a 15 minute mile or something like that eventually.

Strava says my best mile is in half that time, but that was a while ago. You may surprise yourself with what you can achieve.

My legs are just too weak right now I think. Which is funny because my legs are probably the leanest part of my body with the most muscle!

I think most people have reasonable legs as we will all be walking a lot, but running needs a strong heart and lungs too. A lot of the top long distance runners are pretty skinny, but their hearts must be really good. Muscle is extra weight to carry around. I want to be in decent shape even if it compromises my running. I got a bit overweight before I started, but am in good form now. I can't give up the cake :)

I'm with you. Cake is one of my weaknesses! Most of my weight is in my gut area, so I am just working on getting rid of that.
