Morning Run: Far from home
steevc just finished a 14.45km run, that lasted for 91 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 993.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
I was helping out at parkrun yesterday (37th time), so I missed out on a run then. I made up for it today with a longer run.
I had to decide on my route and went for heading over to Letchworth as I have not done that in a while. This route does have a few climbs, but I need the workout. I took it fairly easy as this was not about speed. I want to improve my endurance.
It was quite nice out there and borderline whether I needed the second layer, but I went for that rather than risk a chill. Over at Standalone Farm I saw a load of Cubs out with their parents. I saw some later on too and I assume they were at least walking part of the Greenway. The whole loop is about 13 miles, so I doubt they were doing it all. It is always good to see people out enjoying the countryside.
The stretch through Letchworth and Norton goes up and down a bit, but I could amuse myself by checking out the houses long there. Some are very nice. This is part of the Standalone 10k course and I ought to enter for this year.
I went through Radwell Meadows rather than along the road towards Stotfold and that is where I saw a lot more Cubs. I took the direct route home as I felt it would be far enough for today. I saw a black squirrel by the cycle path to Arlesey.
One of the podcasts I listened to was The Now Show. This has been on the BBC for over 25 years and it was the final episode. We have been to a few recordings of this satirical news show and it is a shame for it to end. That was actually a month ago as the BBC do not put some of their shows out immediately on general podcast feeds as they want you to use their app. That is not viable when I am running as I listen to podcasts from a range of sources.
I have a few jobs to do today, as usual, so I had better get on with those.
Run free!

Looks misty! It's just starting to burn off here. High hopes for a decent day!
It was okay out there and warm now. Good for our solar panels.
You have daddy solar panels, I have a little hiking/camping one that is currently charging my power banks!
hope you're not eating junk food as it will take much more kms of run to burn the extra fat
I had pizza last night. Is that junk? I like chocolate too. Life is about balance.
Steve looking very good even though it looks a bit foggy.. keep Guy good friend, every run makes you healthier
It wasn't foggy :)
Oh,,,, sorry I didn't see that but there was this whitish background so I thought it was foggy
Sounds like a lovely run. Busy day here, family and friends over for a BBQ which I’ve cooked. Now chilling with wet and wine, though not simultaneously
!PIZZA
It's getting to BBQ season now. We may have a more restful evening as other half has been busy. We have got to catch up on the latest Doctor Who though!
!BEER
It’s now very peaceful here. My nephew is staying for the week as he is doing work experience at my wife’s company.
I fancy a bit of Dr Who. We lost interest a little while back but it’s looking like a lot of fun again right now.
!PIZZA
The new Who is definitely fun. This week got a little more serious, but it's so well done.

This one sentence had me pause for a long moment. My first thought was, "I didn't know there were bears in the U.K. I can't believe Steve wasn't worried. Wait...that can't be right." Then I reread the sentence and realized you must mean a group similar to the Boy Scouts that we have here in the U.S. Once making that adjustment the sentence made more sense.
Since bears are a real concern in certain parts, my first thought when seeing a bear with or without cubs is to go in the opposite direction. Luckily, the closest bear sighting I experienced was in the Big Bend area. It was a mama bear and her cubs. I was in a car and they were crossing the road. Not sure how I would have handled seeing them were I to have been hiking.
There are no wild bears around here, but we saw one from a distance in Canada last year. The Scouts have various levels of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. I did that when I was a kid and my son did too. Mind you, they let girls in these days.
I love your consistency with the running thing. My parents are visiting so I’ve been very busy and not walking much sadly.
Talking of the podcast, all good things must eventually end I guess. I recently went back to find latest episodes of shows I used to listen to years ago, but stopped for whatever reason, only to find that they’d ended the show years ago… so the ‘latest’ episodes were the goodbye ones. They’re always a little sad but I often manage to find the presenters’ new shows via social media.
Running is a habit for me now, so it's no big deal to get out there unless the weather is horrible.
I've enjoyed so many podcasts that ended. In some cases the people did others, but they may have a different spirit. I've not done my music one in a while, but I may revive it some time.
