Morning Run: parkrun 110, tough muddy

I was volunteering for the last two weeks at Henlow Bridge Lakes parkrun. It has been a wet week, so I knew it would be muddy, although I heard that fresh wood chipping had been spread where the biggest puddle forms. The forecast said it might stop raining by 9, but it kept on coming whilst we were out.
There were a lot of people at the station and I guessed correctly that another steam train was coming through. I did not see it.
As soon as I got there I could see it was going to be really slippery even with trail shoes. One of the marshals said to not expect a good time and I knew it would just be a matter of completing it, preferably without falling over.
Despite the weather people turned up, including one first-timer and a couple of dogs. When we set off I was just trying to keep upright. It was like running on ice. Around the corner it gets quite boggy with lots of water running off the area next to the path. I just ploughed on through it. There were puddles too, but I just ran through them. I know where the paths provide more grip even when under water.
I was focusing hard on where i was treading, but felt my feet slip a few times. You do question your judgement at times like this, but also know that it will not last very long. Runs like this are tough, but it is good to test yourself at times.
I was happy when I could see the finish and splashed through the last puddles before putting on a bit of a sprint to the end. I was 24th of 43 people, including the tail walkers. People will come out in any weather. I know some like to keep a streak of weekly runs going, but I do not worry about that.
I was slightly worried as I had not brought my key that has my barcode attached, but I had it on my phone, so I could scan in to get a result. It was my slowest run there in a long time, but that does not matter. Some people still managed to get really good times.
I jogged some of the way home. I just wanted to get in the shower and then have a hot drink. I have a gig with the band tonight, so I need to prepare for that. I will change my guitar strings and go over the tunes.
Despite the rain our solar panels are still producing power. It has brightened up now, so the battery should get charged,

I used to jog a lot when I could go for 6 km and even more. I heard about how it eventually affects your knees as you age, though that has not discouraged me. I realized the kind of trainers you use matters. I'm surprised to see your tenacity at running in the cold weather and even in the rain. I wouldn't dare do it anyway but wonder how many people would give it a try. @steevc you will be forever young.😊
Some people can have knee problems, but I've heard that it can actually benefit the joints. Top athletes will do a lot more training that me and that can wear the body down. At my level I am just trying to stay fit. There are people there older than me and they inspire me.
Way to go! Even in all the water you still finished strong! Something to be proud of there! With my knees I would have walked the whole way and come in 43rd... Enjoy the gig tonight. What kind of guitar do you play?

Well, consider it like this, at least you tested yourself and you passed with flying colors, especially in weather like that and the danger of slipping and spraining an ankle.

.I remember a cycling event called the Jalapeno 100. It was my first time cycling 100K/62-ish miles. I selected a very flat route. What I didn't expect was that the route was along farmlands filled with windmills. Depending on the direction I was either slogging into a fierce headwinds regretting every decision that brought me to that moment in time or I was flying quickly down country roads with a goofy smile on my face. It's funny how that works. ;-)
It is strange what people will put themselves through. I think running does me good in various ways. I find that posting about it and seeing what others are up to motivates me.
