Morning Run: Brrrrr
steevc just finished a 7.08km run, that lasted for 46 minutes.
This run helped steevc burn 520.0 calories.
Description from Strava:
I was at the White Horse for our acoustic jam session. Only six of us, so that meant we each got lots of songs. I had not touched my guitar in weeks as I have been playing the drums, but I managed to play my songs from memory without too many mistakes. I love the variety of music we get with @todayslight playing his originals and the older guys reviving some old tunes. Rod from the Bonzo Dog Band always has something fun.
I knew it was going to be cold overnight, so I put extra lagging on our condensate pipe to prevent it freezing as that messes up the boiler. I also brought the chickens' water in. It is getting a little lighter in the mornings, but the whole country is cold this week.
I still got out for a run. I went with hat, gloves and warm top, but still in shorts. My heating controller said it was -5.5C out there. It was pretty frosty, but I was fine once I got going.
This was not going to be a quick run, but I need to keep up my distance to maintain stamina. I did the usual loop. It is nice to have more light, especially on the long climb up to Fairfield. That road is very straight, so you can see all the way up and it seems to take forever.
It was fairly quiet out there, but there were some dog walkers and people off to work. It did not feel too slippery, but I was wary.
I was glad to get back to our warm house. I am glad to live in a time of central heating. The shower was nice too.
It seems I regained one of the 'local legend' statuses on Strava. I may look at getting some more on my usual routes. I have volunteered to help at parkrun on Saturday and will probably need to wrap up for that. At least the mud may be frozen.
Have a great day and run free.

My wife and I finally got around to buying a treadmill. It is supposed to be delivered next week, so we will see how that goes. I'm looking forward to being able to add some activities to our workouts even if we can't leave the house.
I used to have a cross-trainer, but I prefer getting outside now. Obviously your climate makes that harder in winter. Hope you enjoy it. At least you could watch some TV.
Yes, I am going to put it right in front of the TV in the basement now that we got rid of the couch down there. I am hoping it will make a difference for us.
Getting a treadmill hmmm you should definitely Google Zwift it might give you some extra motivation during your Indoor runs it certainly helps me with my treadmill runs at my local gym.
Looking forward to a hive post about the treadmill when it comes 😊
I will definitely check into that. We went with a model that doesn't force you into one of those iFit subscriptions that a lot of them use these days. My wife said "I don't need a personal trainer, I just want to get on it and walk".
It is worth a look and the running side is free (just need a zwift run pod roughy £18 or $25ish) but no subscription and yh it seems everything runs on subscriptions so it is nice that you have a treadmill that you can just use.
Very cool!
I never knew that you could play the guitar
I was thinking you were only good with drumsets
Nice one!
I've not posted about guitar in a while.
Local legend! Congratulations that's amazing. I haven't done any outdoor runs for a while I just can't deal with the cold and soggy conditions especially with it being all hilly and rough pavements near me, I don't have the right clothing for it either.
Nevertheless I have been using the treadmill quite abit and now with Zwift sending me a replacement run pod as my other one randomly broke I hope to get back regularly treadmill running whilst the weather is as cold as this. Zwift makes the runs enjoyable with the group running sessions and races
Local legend is just based on how often you run somewhere rather than speed. If I do lots of intervals there then I am bound to get it, but I haven't done that lately.
I've seen a few people use Zwift. Does it simulate different locations?
!BEER
Oh nice, I normally follow the same route when running outdoors so I might try and be consistent when the weather improves and maybe just maybe become a local legend :)
And for Zwift yes it simulates different locations like London, Scotland, and France etc I believe these rotate each week/month but normally you can do them whenever. There is A place called Watopia, It is zwifts virtual world and that's cool too.
Anyone can create segments on Strava, so you could add some near you. I've done a few.

.Good stuff! Just heading back from a day in the office up in London, my once in a blue moon trip. My gosh it was cold on the train platform this morning
I try to time my walks to the station so I'm not hanging around for too long. I get my ticket on the app, so don't need to buy one there. I get away with two days each week in the office.
You had quite a good day, you got to spend an interesting moment with friends, jamming and having some good fun, and also exercising to maintain a fit physical state. Regards, my friend.
We were only half a degree colder up here! Its meant to turn around for the weekend tho!
Looking to get above freezing here by Saturday, which is good if I'm standing around watching the runners.
Yeah, we have a hillwalk on Sunday so I am going for dry and not entirely freezing!
Nice going @steevc! Cold up in Scotland, too - most of the trail I ran tonight was covered in a thin sheet of ice. But isn't it wonderful to end a chilly but stimulating run in a warm home? Your acoustic jam session at the White Horse sounds like so much fun. Good luck with the volunteering at the parkrun on Saturday - fingers crossed the weather's fine! You may need to run circles to keep from freezing over, haha.
You may get it a lot colder at times. This was cold enough for me, but if you wrap up then it's not so bad. It's due to get a little warmer by Saturday, but I'll layer up.

@steevc since you are writing about Strava here it reminded me to ask about another device. I have an opportunity to get a Garmin smartwatch, the alternative being some other local smartwatches. Based on Garmin's history with gps I am swinging towards it. Just wanted to check in your running circle you have anyone using a Garmin watch. Typically here people buying a non local watch tend to buy Apple iWatch or Samsung or Huawei. So I am trying to ask everyone I know for info about Garmin, specially Garmin Venu Sq2. [Also checking Google and Gpt but trust people feedback more :)]
I have a Garmin Forerunner that I am very happy with. The battery life is good (about a week) and it does what I want for running. I only use their online service as a bridge to Strava. It may lack some of the smartwatch functions others offer, but they have so many models. Mine does not have a touchscreen and cannot do payments. I don't know much about the Venu. I think Garmin is the preferred brand for logging sport.
Aha you have the Forerunner. Cool. That's good input. I will check the specifications but if they are making good sensors into their watches it would probably be the same across all the models. I will only use it for walking to start with so rugged might not be the main criteria but i don't care too much for connectiveness either. Just sensors should be good. You input gives me wings :)
I have looked at some of the more expensive models, but I am not sure they offer much more that I actually need.
I am redeeming award tokens at work. There is a limited set but I am able to go beyond my normal budget :)
Finally ordered this one https://www.garmin.co.in/products/wearables/venu-sq-2-gray/
Cool. Looks like it has more features than mine and supports more types of activity. You'll have to do a report once you've used it for a while.

Yes, mainly the music ones have memory in them to store media. I am hoping that will be good to store podcasts and go for walks in our block without the phone. Will write more once I have them.
