Description from Strava:
I was out at our open mic in the White Horse, which is just over the road from me. It was a good night with a few Hivers present. I did not drink a lot, but it still got me up in the night. That was when I heard it raining hard.

The rain had stopped by the morning, but it still looked a bit grim out there. I walked and jogged down to the course and it was not too cool out there. As I crossed the footbridge over the railway a steam train came through. I have seen people saying the Flying Scotsman was coming through today, but this was not it.

The course was looking very muddy and slippery, so I was not expecting a quick time. Just off the start a guy slipped over behind me. I ran through the deep mud and took care where there was just a thin layer as that tends to be more dangerous. I had trail shoes on, but there are limits to the grip.

As I started the second lap my left foot slipped sideways on a slope and I was sure I was going down, but somehow I stayed on my feet and kept going. I was being quite wary all the way and was looking for places that might be less slippery.

My time was a little better than the road race two weeks ago, so I am happy enough with that. In better conditions I may have been quicker, but it will not improve much there over the winter unless the rain holds off for a while. You can see my legs got pretty muddy.

There were 81 finishers and I came 31st.

Alan is one of our regulars in his 70s and he did his 100th parkrun today. He brought some cake along to celebrate that, so some of us went to the camp cafe to have that. Someone kindly bought me a coffee as I did not have any money or even my phone with me. Someone else also brought some cakes, so there was plenty.

After eating and chatting I walked home with one of the ladies who had been marshalling.

Since then we have been out shopping all day, so I have only just sat down to write this up.

This outing will count towards the company charity effort. I also logged a couple of walks yesterday.

Run free!

A solid effort in the mud. So is the flying Scotsman a tourist train. I remember having a Hornsby train set featuring it.

I had the Hornby model too. It's probably the most famous stream train. I think it may have been quickest for a while.

Why? It's about giving what I have to the run. I can recover afterwards.
