@sawko wins the Hivechess fun tournament with a narrow lead
Dear Chess fans,
yesterday a Hivechess standalone fun tournament was played, a 4+2 arena with 19 players.
There were special rules, summarized here:
- A win by checkmate gives an extra point to the Lichess final ranking
- A draw before the 30th move loses a point
- A win by flagging in a losing position (>2 according to Stockfish) -> 50% reduction of the points achieved
- A win against an opponent with >250 less rating points -> 33% reduction of the points achieved
- A win against an opponent with >500 less rating points -> 66% reduction of the points achieved
- A win against an opponent with >250 more rating points -> 33% increase of the points achieved
- A win against an opponent with >500 more rating points -> 66% increase of the points achieved

@ebingo was not counted as he didn´t play a single game, @hive-102040 was not counted as it is a group account, so the actual Hive user behind this account is not identifiable.
Please doublecheck your entries - if I made a mistake, I will correct it!
No changes in the first two spots - also after applying the rules, @sawko won the tournament (and earned 5 Hive), but rather closely followed by the runner-up @lucianosky (Pavarotty). Third was @kintokris (jonbellionfan), and fourth @fcastro177.
@rodrook could make it to the stunning 6th place! Also the 7th place of @stranger27 and the 8th one by @clixmoney are remarkable. All 3 left some way stronger players behind. Shoutout also to @herz-ass who did very well in his very first Hivechess tournament!
Congratulations to the winner and all participants!
Lessons learned:
I think it is an interesting experiment in order to try to compensate for the different skill levels in Hivechess.
There could be some other meaningful rules added, e.g. if someone wins by no move from the opponent, this could also lead to a reduction of points, to reduce some of the luck factors.
The calculating took quite a long time. This is unfortunately not sustainable (for me) throughout a whole season, especially with that two-tiered adaption steps. One could think of a simpler one, like 50% reduction/addition if the rating difference is e.g. >400.
But even this would mean for each tournament report one table for the changed ranking of the round (to be created from scratch each week!) and a second one for the season standings. Not feasible, I am afraid!
Season 13 will start in 2 weeks, on Sep., 2nd. Mark it in your calendar!
Until then, have a nice time and keep practicing!
Well it's interesting but it is indeed too much math. In the case someone gets the victory without any move from the oponentnt I think is kind of unfair that this point doesn't count cuz is not the winner's fault that the oponentnt doesn't appear.
I'm changing my internet provider so I'm off for quite a long time and the next week I'll play an OTB tournament so I'll probably miss a few Hive chess tournaments unfortunately
Anyways, keep going 👍
It is not the winner´s fault, but also you don´t lose time. So 2 points for 20sec seems not fair either.
Good luck for your tournament!

@stayoutotherz, thanks for the big effort and creativity with the “Hivechess fun tournament”. I am happy with my sixth place finish in spite of blundering three winning positions (lol).
Congrats to the many times winner @sawko!
Note: I think I may berserk against all the 2000 + players to save time :).
Hi.
It's an interesting experiment but unfortunately the procedure is not clear or something since I can't replicate these results. Mine are different. Perhaps you could post an example using the scores of a player.
Well, I don´t want to spend much more time than I did and I thought the rules are quite obvious (just the 33% were stupid, better would have been 33,3% to reduce some rounding errors). But if you insist, send me an example of a different outcome per Discord, not here.
Thanks a lot to you for organising this turnament -
and motivating me to enter lichess!

Sad I couldn't get the time to participate in most of the Chess events last season. But I'm back and better, I'll make sure not to miss any week of Hive chess!
Congratulations to the winners btw!
