Reminder: Round 6 of the Hivechess Tournament S10 , Friday, 20h GMT

Dear chess fans!

the sixth round of S10 is played this Friday 18th Feb., 20h GMT, as usual.
The current standings after the first 5 rounds you can find here.

This time it will be an ordinary 5+0 arena round. To have no increment is a challenge in itself, so keep a look at your time, you have only the one given at start!

Mode: 5+0 (5 minutes per game, no increment), arena mode, no streaks

Tournament Link: https://lichess.org/tournament/bZvLSWhp

There are already >220$ (app. 200 Hive) in the pricepool!

RULES

  • For Hivers, Steemians, Blurters, noise.cashers and all others!

  • Players of all skill levels are welcome, from newbies to experts, you just need a free Lichess-account!

  • Every Friday is one round

  • Time mode is varying (5+0, 3+2,...), rated, berserking allowed (except in Swiss mode)

  • The winner of each round gets the number of points equaling the number of players in that round, the second ranked one point less and so forth until the one on the bottom of the table who gets one point.

  • Occasionally a round may be divided into 2 skill classes

  • In case two players have the same number of points, the one who played less rounds is first. If that is equal too, then the average tournament performance decides.

  • PAYOUT: This season goes over 10 rounds and the tournament points are summed up. All Hivechess-related post rewards are pooled and 80% go to the price pool (PP). The tournament winner will get 25 Hive bonus, a unique NFT trophy and the rest of the PP is divided among all players according to the number of tournament points achieved, but only if a player has participated at least 3 times (if <3 games are played in a round it will be not counted)!

  • There will be special prices for the highest overall tournament performance and the highest performance in relation to the own rating (counted by averaging the rating after the first and the last round)

  • If I don´t know your Hive username, I can´t consider you in the final rankings, so please let me know your Hive name in the comments or in the Lichess chat!

  • If you have not yet joined our team in Lichess, please do it here, so that you can participate (required for the Swiss tournaments only).

Please share this announcement among your (chess) friends and colleagues!
The more participate, the more fun! And maybe some are even interested to join Hive and it´s Chess Community?

See you tomorrow and good luck to all!

Any guess for the rapid/blitz tie-break between Aronian and Nakamura in the FIDE Grand Pris 2022 tomorrow, after the 2 classical games were both draws? I think Nakamura has a slight advantage in blitz (despite Aronian played so fast in the recent games) and can make it as winner of Leg 1.

Allowing Berserk with no increments, I like that, gives the weaker players a fighting chance against the monsters.

I'm rooting for Aronian because I dislike Hikaru and his drama, I just don't like him as a person despite him being an amazing chess player, especially in low time controls. I think Hikaru will take the victory home, he's got way too much experience from playing hundreds of games a week in chess.com.

Do you think He will give his ticket to Ding Liren as he stated? I highly doubt he will want to do it if the time comes, but because of PR he might end up doing so. Although him reaching the candidates means a lot more $ from chess.com and more exposure to the website, so it will be stated that by contract he can't give the ticket to another player no matter how much he wants to, and he will end up doing what he wanted but never accepted of wanting: Playing the candidates.

See you on Friday!

Actually, I think that 2.5 minutes are rather comfortable for the 'monsters'. :)

Much harder would be for example 3 + 2, because then they had only 1.5 minutes if they berserk, but the oppoenents would have 3 minutes plus increment.

Perhaps you're right, it's just that I've seen some comments about I don't like no increment in the chat. Perhaps 2.5 minutes is enough, it would be interesting to see when do lower rated players have better results, perhaps I'm right, perhaps you're right.

At least I personally am having much better results with 3 + 2. I might not be really low rated, lol, but I am very slow. :-)

Downside with increment is that the games take longer and the Berserkers will have much more games than the non-Berserkers.

I think the games wouldn't take longer, because the berserkers had one full minute less per game, and the non-berserkes had two minutes less (and two additional seconds per move which would be 80 seconds in 40 moves which is still less than the additonal two minutes of 5 + 0).

I'd guess berserking when opponent doesn't have increment is easier than opponent having increment.
I'm with #Hikaru, even I want him to get to the world champion's challenger chair and winning it all :)
