Hivechess Tournament Season 20 Round 3: @samostically was the winner, by a thread!

Dear chess fans,

yesterday the third round of S20 was played with the chess960 variant. For the rules please refer to the announcement post. 26 players were participating, so many players we had not since S15! Welcome to Hivechess, @katerinaramm, @seki1, @teooo and @techstyle and welcome back, @anomadsoul and @ropavejero!

This time IM @maestroask was overtaken at the last moment, so the new winner was our veteran player @samostically! With quite some gap behind were @rosmarly and myself as third and fourth. Congratulations to All! Shoutout to @sammy00 , @anomadsoul and also @lighteye who all could gain good places in the Top 10!

The first tournament of the 2025 Freestyle Grand Slam Tour in Weissenhaus is over! The German youngster Vincent Keymer won in a nothing but spectacular fashion! He knocked out first Alireza Firouzja in the quarterfinals, then Magnus Carlsen in the semifinals and finally Fabiano Caruana in the final without losing a single game!

And all this with an accuracy of 96,4% which is phenonemal for Fischerrandom chess!
Levy Rozman ("Gothamchess" on YT) rightfully said "His understanding of these chess positions was from another planet".
Looking forward to the next Freestyle chess event this April in Paris.

That's nice was nice joining the chess round for the first time, I'm grad to win some, I was so tired yesterday before joining the game. I wish to comeback in new form next round.

@stayoutoftherz Maybe it was a miss spelling of name @techstyle not @techdtyle no user with the name on hive. Confirm and correct. Thanks

It was really fun, I enjoyed a lot playing with my fellow hivers.
I hope that with more training on the field, I will be a more worthy opponent.
If you wish to add my country, it is Greece.
Thank you!

What I love about this tournament, is that no round is boring with timing or gameplay. I should as a suggestion ( although I don't know if it can be done) one or some rounds with a specific opening or defense. See you in the next round!

Hi @stayoutoftherz. Very interesting tournament, I think I prefer chess960. I barely stand a chance against the IM in normal time control, but I almost got two wins with berserk in chess960. It's feels good to be actively back. Also i think I like the earlier suggested idea of a themed opening tournament. We can start with your favorite carols Khan!

I'm off to write my victory post hehehehe:)

Hmm, actually I don´t want that everybody will be an expert in the Caro-Cann. If a themed tournament, let´s pick something else like Gruenfeld or some fun stuff like Fried Liver.

Unfortunately, couldn't play last round - cause we left for a hike

I don’t agree with the idea of themed tournaments, as someone might have an edge, which could create an imbalance. Chess960, on the other hand, is fantastic, but in my opinion, it should have been at least 4+2 instead of 4+1. The random positions require more time to think through, and the additional increment would help. Unfortunately, I underperformed greatly in the last tournament. I’m looking forward to the next tourney. :)

congrats all
it was such competitive round
top 10 was close to each other
This is 22 minutes before round ends
From 3rd to 9th place everyone has same number of points - and 10th place is 1 point away

last 10 minutes is same
from 3rd to 9th only one points difference

Such a good round and mode with chess960
I dont recall more competitive round for me

Congrats all again
