Hivechess Tournament Season 15 Round 5: @maestroask won, @jaki01 best untitled player!
Dear chess fans,
yesterday the 5th round of season 15 was played as a 3+1 Swiss arena over 9 rounds. 27 players had joined with an average rating of 1724. @mundocuriosidad is now playing under his Lichess name Tonystar111 (previously M_schumacherf1), welcome @engilhramn who joined for the first time and welcome back @yinjuolu (Yetundefemii).
@maestroask (Odnoobraz_bcm) won the tournament undefeated with 9 out of 9. Runner-up was our chess veteran @jaki01 with 8/9, followed by 3 players with 6/9 each: @sawko, @eniolw and @mundocuriosidad (Tonystar111). Congratulations to all!
I could have joined that pack of players, if I had not thrown away the full point in my game (with Black) against @pamboy27 ☹️.
Black to mate in one:
Instead of the obvious mate in time scramble I went for a repetition with Qf4 and back to f1. Total blindness! Apart from that I am still happy with my 6th place. I even was able to defeat @sawko! Quite a rare event. I also had a winning position against @maestroask but failed to find the right continuation.

The rules you can look up in the S15 announcement post.
Halfway through S15 @maestroask´s lead is extended to 12 points. @dhilan04 could grab back rank 3 from @vjap55.
See you all next week - and keep practicing!
On Monday, 3rd April the Chessable Masters starts - which will be the last tournament with Magnus Carlsen as reigning world champion (unless he fights back for the title in 2 years).
Because the World Championship Match between Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren will begin already on the 9th April! So at Norway Chess end of May, Carlsen will participate as a normal GM, pretty unnatural for my taste 😃.
BREAKING NEWS:
Lichess introduced today a new time mode - decrement time controls, where every move you play takes an additional second off your clock. This gives you an added incentive to finish your opponent quickly! So no endless time scrambles anymore!

Did you try it our already?
It was very nice to be a part of. Congratulations to the Winner and the other very good players. I am still very bad at this game but i be there with you for the fun and relaxed time.
Greetings and Hive Chess ON!

Herrlich. :-D
Congratulations @stayoutoftherz! You received a personal badge!
Wait until the end of Power Up Day to find out the size of your Power-Bee.
May the Hive Power be with you!

Aww man, missing that mate hurts so much. I threw a game against @jaki01 when I had a winning position, but well its blitz so it happens ;-;
Did you examine the game again now and found a checkmate? I am just curious. I also didn't see a checkmate during the game, but it is well possible that there was one.
I also missed to get a winning (or at least very good) position against Odnoobraz_bcm (@maestroask):
Here as black 18. ... h3 had been very strong, for example:
18. ... h3 19. Bh1 Bxg5 20. Bxg5 Bf3! 21. Bxf3 Rxf3 (and black controls the white squares; moves like Qg4-f3 or Ne5 might follow soon).
But I don't say white's win was lucky. It is part of the success in chess to recognize given opportunities, and in blitz games I simply miss too many of them and also make too many huge mistakes (I am a slow thinker with bad nerves if it matters), whereas Odnoobraz_bcm plays very constant, solid, fast and in average makes only very few serious mistakes.
That's the whole game:

Yeah I checked it after the tournament. There was a checkmate in 9 moves after 1. Nf6+ Bxf6, but hell i couldn't see it xd
EDIT:
Yeah after 1... h3 black looks soo much better, I personally have problems when trying to create an attack when my opponent has a fianchetto, hate that pawn structure.
And yup, blitz is like that. I had a lot of blunders on this tournament and felt like i wasn't focused at all, I used to consider myself "pretty good" on blitz but hell, I forgot a lot of positions after my years of inactivity and I usually improvise on the fly in all my games haha
Odnoobraz is really amazing tbh, almost all of his moves are incredibly accurate, especially in midgame.
It was great to participate in this season 15 round 5 tournament, it was awesome.
A new time mode? Decrement? Wow. Would love to see how that goes by.
It was an April joke I guess 😄
Wow. So funny cause I actually received a notification from lichess about it. Now I'm going round and I can't find anything on it anymore.
That's a good April fools, but it would be nice to see how that goes down. The time pressure we feel will double with such a time mode.
Congratulations @stayoutoftherz! You received a personal badge!
Participate in the next Power Up Day and try to power-up more HIVE to get a bigger Power-Bee.
