Hivechess Tournament Round 3: @eniolw strikes back!
Dear Chess fans,
the third round of Season 9 was a 4+0 Swiss tournament with an average rating of 1911, the highest so far in this season! And this time 6 new players showed up, most of them very familiar at Hivechess like @zacherybinx (sirtetris), @kreur, @walner and @sammy00 (migmag) - welcome back!
@samostically streamed the tournament here. Also @vjap55 did already a great post about the event including a stream here. Check them out!
Despite the strong field @eniolw was dominating and won with 8 out of 9 points and a performance of 2602! Congratulations! Runner up was @tungphong (blackswan21), one point behind. A group of 3 players followed with 6/9 each and separated by tie break: @vjap55 as 3rd with his best result in this season, @samostically as 4th and surprisingly myself as 5th. I had a kind of lucky pairing, but in addition fortunately blundered less then usually and could even win against @zincheck and @rosmarly! The fact that I mostly play without time increment may have helped.
In this position which I had with White against @maciejficek (XM9000) Black - with his King in the middle surrounded by enemies - has already a hopeless position. After I played Be7+ Black has only bad options (Kc7 is answered by Qf4 checkmate):
https://lichess.org/ze8xxTDc#48
In an attempt to not lose the Queen he took the Bishop with his own Bishop - just to get instantly mated on d7!
In the last round I was very lucky with the Black pieces against @rosmarly. In this position she could have just mated me in 2:
Normally the move Rh5+ followed by Rag5 mate is not hard to find, right? But not with 7 seconds on the clock! She instead traded off a Strikethroughpair of Rooks and later lost on time. Shit happens!
Here the result table of R3:

The rules you can look up in the announcement post.
@tungphong (blackswan21) is still on the first spot with a lead of 8 points, followed by @samostically. @vjap55 with his good result today could grab the 3rd place from @jaki01. And @eniolw (who won all rounds so far in which he participated!) jumped from the 11th to the 6th rank. But it will be not easy to regain the lead if the other players keep playing so consistently strong. This seasons seems the most competitive so far!
See you all next week!
Regarding the prices I was thinking of adding two extra prices, one for the best overall performance, and/or one for the highest performance in relation to the own rating in the first round. Both of course only if one participates at least e.g. 5 times. What you think about this?
Growing number of players, and growing average rating. I like what I see, @stayoutoftherz 😃
Great report and brilliant move Be7+ , i didn’t see it 🙏
Thanks!
oh, @stayoutoftherz there seems i am on the first spot with a lead of 8 points 😄
Of course! Stupid me. I corrected.
I was really excited when I saw we were 30 players. I didn't expect that. And everyone is very good, so there's no easy game.
Blackswan21 (@tungphong) is leading 8 points actually, but he can’t afford to miss any of the next tournaments, because… if he do, and if there is again at least 30 players, then 8 players below him theoretically can take his crown! And according to this trend, we will almost certainly grow further.
On the other hand, this rewarding system is actually much better at revealing my true rating (performance) than lichess.org, which is too generous… 😀 No, I am not disappointed, I like the truth.
Thanks @stayoutoftherz for the first implementation of this rewarding system.
I like idea of two new prices.
Suggestion: when You cut the chess position, put also axis (1-8 and A-H) on the image so it would be easier to see moves written.
OK, will do next time. I have those descriptions inactivated even, but I can make them visible again.
Thanks for the mention as always @stayoutoftherz. I love tactical strikes. Be7+ is so Brilliant! Forces deflection mate or loss of material.
That's Great! More motivation for everyone to play. Its really been a competitive season and it's still a long way to go!
Yeah, it was a strong competition we had. This is getting better and better. And the idea about the extra prices seems ok with me. Thanks everyone!
LaNo way!!! Hahaha I didn't see that dunk, the clock had me crazy and I didn't see that @stayoutoftherz, well next time give me a rematch hahaha.
nice
Did you invest in CryptoPunk? If Yes, how much did You pay?
I minted 4 Punks for 20 Hive each, so totally 80. But now they are all gone. You can buy them on the market here: https://punks.usehive.com/market
So currently there are no punks to buy, because market is empty? And for how much Hive did you sell them?
No, market is full, but the site somehow is overloaded. Try to refresh and wait.
I placed one for 99 Hive. But others go for 40 or 45.
I dont understand why people buy them, they are useless.
tnx @stayoutoftherz - nice to be back
new system makes it more interesting
gg / congrats all
Me gustaría participar en los juegos como debo hacer?
