Vaclav Pech jr won Barum Rally Zlin 2023 while Jan Kopecky won ERC division
Hi, friends!
I can't believe that seventeen years old WRC (World Rally Car) cars are still faster then the newest Rally2 technology with the latest developments. Difference in power between these two seventeen years different models is around 30bhp (from what I know) so it is not that much but Rally2 cars have much more advanced suspension then the old WRC cars from 2nd part of 2000's.
Yeah, I forgot to say that Pech's car is Ford Focus WRC 2006,one of the best cars from that generation. On the other hand Jan Kopecky drives latest evolution of Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 car which is hard to even buy because buyer's list is one year long.
Kopecky would probably push even more if Pech jr was in contention for the European Rally Championship but he wasn't. Difference between two of them after 200km of competition was just 9.1s which is not much nut it counts.
One who impressed me very much was Hungarian Miklos Csomos who finished 3rd overall and 2nd in the ERC division. Well done, I must say for this Hungarian Škoda driver.
Austrian Simon Wagner finished 4th overall and 3rd in the ERC standings which could only build his confidense ahead of the last European Rally Championship outing in Hungary in two months. Wagner also drives Škoda, it is worth to mention.
Two home drivers from Czech Republic - Adam Brezik and Filip Mareš finished 4th and 5th overall, both in Škoda cars which made this car so dominant in this Rally2 category.
This was great event to follow, very tough and dirty tarmac with lots of retirements, unfortunately.
Last round of ERC is in Hungary in October. Until then we have much more action in the World Rally Championship and the first is Acropolis Rally Greece 2023 in ten days.
