Onboard rally video of the day - R.Burns with Peugeot 206 WRC at Rally Germany
Hi, friends!
I remember just it was yesterday when Richard Burns became a World Rally Champion in 2001. Guys from UK were delighted. I was fan of Colin McRae at that time so I wasn't happy like them but we all knew that Burns had the speed and knowledge to became a champ.
I heard for him for the first time at the end of season 1993 when he drove Subaru Legacy RS Group A from Prodrive in the English Rally Championship. He got a start with the same car at the WRC Network Q Rally GB and there he had some blistering good special stage times.
In the 2nd part of nineties he became a works Mitsubishi driver and he scored his first win with them at the legendary Safari Rally Kenya 1998. I remember that moment very good as well. He got signed for Subaru year later and that team gave him the right car for the World Rally Championship title in 2001.
Just after he score that title, he got signed for Peugeot for 2002 and 2003. I think that contract was signed before he clinched the title so guys from Prodrive didn't have an argument to keep him and the number one on that car.
Yeah, number one was on the Peugeot 206 WRC which Richard Burns drove bu he just didn't have the luck with that car. He didn't win a single rally with that car and it was a championship winning car in 2002 with Marcus Gronholm.
Season 2003 was the last one for Burns because just before the end he got ill and his career was over. But we have an onboard from WRC Rally Germany which shows how big driver was Richard Burns.
Please enjoy and learn from English master...
