Ogier leads WRC Safari Rally Kenya 2023 after day two
Hi, friends!
It was a hard day for all the crews at probably hardest and roughest event of the World Rally Championship - Safari Rally Kenya, the only event held in Africa. I must be sincere and admit that I am happy that Africa has its own round of the World Rally Championship.
It is nothing new except that Toyota now has 1-2-3-4 lead after Hyundai's Esapekka Lappi retired from a day because of a technical problem. He had a propshaft problem again, just like on the shakedown stage and now it is a serious problem for the works team like Hyundai.
Current WRC champion Kalle Rovanpera made a biggest progress of a day when slashed Seb Ogier's lead down to 16.7s in the last special stage of a day.
Dani Sordo is the best placed Hyundai driver in 5th position overall and then we have two M-Sport Ford drivers - Ott Tanak and Pierre-Louise Loubet in 6th and 7th.
Tomorrow is the last day of a rally with six more special stages. These six are not that long on the previous two days but you can make mistake or have a technical problem on the last 10km of the rally.
