Interview to watch - Hollie McRae interviews M-Sport Ford boss about her father's career at Ford
Hi, friends!
All of you who follow my posts know that Colin Mcrae was my inspiration to start my rally career. I remember well the day when he died in a helicopter accident. It was year 2007 and it was a sad day for rally community but that's the way life goes in circle. You can't do anything about this.
Colin McRae started his professional career with Subaru, stayed with them for eight seasons, won the World Rally Championship with them and after he got a multy-million GBP offer from Malcolm Wilson, who is still M-Sport owner, he signed a contract with Ford. He stayed with them for four seasons.
He was probably the only rally driver with a year salary equal to the salary of some football (soccer) player at that time.
Ford entered the new model of Ford Focus WRC in 1999 and that was the first season with Colin who won the toughest gravel rally of the season - Safari Rally Kenya - the same year. He won the next gravel rally after Safari - Rally Portugal.
That was an evidence that the car is good enough after successful Ford Escort WRC. Just to remind you that WRC class was introduced 1997, and before that year it was Group A8 as a top class in rallying.
But there was also a number of retirements - some because of the mechanical issues and some were driver's errors. Colin made his mark at Ford and after four seasons he signed for Citroen.
I guess that this was a biggest mistake of his career because that season with Citroen was his last full season in WRC. I am talking about season 2003.
His daughter Hollie looks like him very much and here we have an interview she made with her father's boss at that time at Ford.
Please enjoy this great story...
