Blast from the past - Monte Carlo Rallye 2004
Hi, friends!
Today we are going into the season 2004 and back then I also knew almost everything about rallying, I had four rally starts by myself and enjoyed everything about the sport, the same as now.
But that season was the first one without Colin McRae, driver was loved by my whole generation because of his attitude_ IF IN DOUBT, FLAT OUT. Every driver of my generation wanted to be just like Colin and all those younger guys like Seb Loeb or Petter Solberg were some youngsters because of who Colin lost his full drive in the World Rally Championship.
Season 2004 was also a start of domination by Seb Loeb who won all his nine WRC titles in the row with the beginning from that 2004.
So Petter Solberg was the last one to win the title before Seb's era because there was another Seb - Ogier, who just continued that era.
Peugeot just introduced their 307 WRC model after super successful 206 WRC but that was the end of their domination because of some stupid technical ideas their engineers wanted to introduce. They had four-gear gearbox and it was very unreliable, just like the power steering of that car.
On the other hand, another French manufacturer - Citroen - was in their 2nd full season in the WRC and they kept two top placed drivers from season 2003 - Seb Loeb and Carlos Sainz sr. Yeah, they got dumped of McRae and THAT WAS ALSO THE END OF THE SPORT IN MEDIA.
From that season the visibility of the sport in medial just got lower and lower and it's not anything better these days.
I found this TV show today and I don't care because it is in French, it is just the piece of history that every motorsport fan should meet.
Please enjoy...
