Al-Attiyah won Qatar Rally 2022
Hi, friends!
It is nothing new when we say that Nasser Al-Attiyah is a king of the Middle East Rally Championship. That guy won so many championships there and there is also another fact about that: he knows all those special stages just like his pocket and because these are the specialized events, very much similar to the Dakar Rally on some parts (without dunes), then it is pretty normal that Al-Attiyah will be on the stages like at home.
Every year they invite some top names of the rallying to quest that Middle East rallies, pay the rents for them and all the expenses and it's pretty normal that top guys will come there to try to beat unbeatable Al-Attiyah.
This year they invited ex-WRC events winner Kris Meeke and ex-WRC2 champion Mads Ostberg. Both of them tried to beat Al-Attiyah but in the end they both admitted that this is almost impossible.
To be honest I don't know how that guys make recce of the special stages because it all seems like a desert. It's just you are making a recce for Dakar Rally.
Now I understand why foreign guys say that it is almost impossible to beat AL-Attiyah who is as we know multiple Dakar Rally winner.
So Mads Ostberg retired because of the water leak from the engine bay and Kris Meeke rolled but managed to continue and finally finished 3rd overall.
Meeke is still under the contract with Škoda Motorsport for testing of the new evolution of Fabia Rally2 car while Mads Ostberg hopes for the contract extension with Citroen. Al-Attiyah was behind a steering wheel of his privately owned Volkswagen Polo R5 rally car.
It was a nice rally, no doubt about that...
