More reasons to bet against Carolina Panthers this upcoming weekend

The Carolina Panthers are my favorite NFL team. I don't abandon ship just because they are terrible and trust me, they are extremely terrible this year. I am genuinely surprised that they managed to pull off a win against the Raiders a few weeks back and will be equally surprised if they manage to win even one more game this season.

This upcoming weekend they are scheduled to play away against the Washington Redskins (I refuse to call them by their new PC name) and I don't know if the people in Vegas are looking at the wrong stats but Washington is favored by a mere -400 on the moneyline (meaning a straight "pick a winner" bet) and are favored only by 8 points on the spread.

The fact that Carolina is one of the worst teams to hit an NFL field in 10 years or so is reason enough to bet against them but new information has just come forward to make a loss something that is even more near-guaranteed of happening.

The Carolina Panthers do not have a great many offensive weapons in their arsenal but it was revealed yesterday that Diontae Johnson, who is a go-to on pass plays and averages 11.4 yards per reception is likely to not play at all due to an ankle injury. Even if they do decide to field him he is not going to be at 100% and honestly, there are very few other people for presumed starting QB Andy Dalton to pass to.

While I do not care for Washington as a team, I believe they are a great deal better than the Panthers are and their 1st place spot in the NFC East would indicate that this is true. They are ranked number 5 in rushing yards and also 5th in overall yards per game across the entire 32-teams in the NFL. Carolina on the other hand is either the worst, or very near the worst in almost every stat including standing at dead last in points scored against them per game, meaning that their defense is abysmal. So when you take one of the worst defenses in the NFL and put them against what is statistically one of the best offenses in the NFL, guess what typically happens?

I believe that Carolina is going to lose by double-digits, perhaps more than 20 points. The bookies are being very conservative with this -8 spread and the bets up to this point reflect exactly that sort of opinion.

When a mere 2% of people overall are betting on a Carolina win, I think that you can say with certainty that the world knows who is going to come out on top here. Of course there is always the chance that some sort of freak upset happens but here is another reason why this is really unlikely. Washington is at the top of their conference in a situation where that could change at any time with Philly and Dallas knocking at the door a mere 1 game behind. They are, no doubt, really hoping to take over that spot. Washington has glimpses of greatness this season and could be pushing for a stellar record with a fantastic playoff position. Carolina on the other hand already realizes that this season is a wash and the morale in the locker room isn't exactly one of extreme motivation. I don't believe that Carolina is giving it their all because they are completely out of the playoff picture already barring some sort of holy intervention.

This seems like a sure thing to me. I'll be betting against Carolina

The ew PC names are shocking and hope everyone sticks with the old names. We had many road name changes in South Africa which made no sense because the many roads they selected to change were not part of the previous government. Everyone here still calls the roads by their old names as most of the names you cannot spell or even pronounce.

The people that these names were meant to be insulting to didn't ask for this either. The tribe that the Redskins logo and name was based on has some members that are suing Washington over this.... it won't go anywhere but that kind of says a lot about what the hell was this PC crap for anyway?

Tennessee is looking pretty bad as well but anyone looks great compared to Carolina. I would bet against the Titans since they have Buffalo, but a bet on the Bills is at -500 right now. I think it is a safe bet on the moneyline, but the spread being at 9.5 would be a bit dangerous.

I see. Mason Rudolph is going to start now so that spread is probably even more risky. Mason is obviously no massive threat but a major upgrade over Levis.

I don't follow the Titans very carefully. Did they kind of go all in on Levis the way that Carolina did with Bryce Young only to discover that his college excellence didn't transfer very well into the pros?

I'd say yes, your assumption is pretty much correct. Levis has been totally terribly AWFUL. But also, Levis has a bit of mystery injury it seems as well. Honestly, I think the coaching staff has been itching to play Rudolph but perhaps front office people were pro-Levis. I think the Levis chapter is all but closed though. I DEFINITELY prefer Rudolph at least the rest of 2024. Tanking is not always the answer anyway. Will be interesting!
